Nintendo Dsi Where is info stored?

    Hi
I know nothing about DSi's. We are getting rid of my sons DSi as he is getting the new XL for his birthday. I just suddenly thought of things that he has downloaded that we have bought. Are these stored in the machine itself or on the SD card that he can take out. Will he still be able to use them.
Also is there something i should do to the Dsi before i get rid of it. Worried there will be stored account information or pictures that sort of thing.
    Thanks for your help.

I have looked on a nintendo forum and whilst you can put the game onto an SD card it suggests if i have understood it correctly that it will then not play on a new machine.
If anyone knows different please let me know.
This is scandalous. I cannot believe we have let my son buy DSi ware or whatever its called and then cannot transfer if to another machine. Can anyone else confirm this. We are not wanting to copy anything to a second machine i want to delete off first and put on new machine so not trying to copy fraudulently or anything like that.
If i have read it right i wonder how many parents have bought there kids wii points as they are now called to put onto their Dsi or DS not knowing they cant be transferred. Lets face it kids are always updating their nintendos.
I am really hoping someone can tell me i am wrong. I also phoned nintendo and that is what they seemed to say. I had quite a row with him saying surely these things are stored on computers so they know what i have bought. If it is right we will never buy off nintendo downloads again.

But if they made it possible to transfer it from one machine to another people would abuse it.

Many people already do with an R4 card...

Yes but you do with a play station. When ours broke we just downloaded again. There should be a way of deactivating one ds before downloading the games purchased. My son has had about £20 worth of stuff since Xmas. it just does not seem fair at all. And i bet most parents dont know you cant transfer if updating to another model.

Also we arent talking about big games but the little DSi stuff they get at a few pounds a go.
