Nintendo Switch £999.99 Pre-Order @ Game - £999.99

Game are asking customers to pre-order the Nintendo Switch for £999.99. They admit this price will change but in theory Game could charge whatever they want as the console approaches release and demand increases. In the past this has included artificially inflating prices by including overpriced games and Blu-Ray discs.

This Deal deserves to get very COLD indeed.

...and I hope that was an error.

Not even worth half that

What's the point in posting this?

utter rubbish price cold as ice

Move along folks, nothing to see here. The price on GAME's website is TBC - with £999.99 as a placeholder - which is common practice.

This is just a post to encourage the hate for GAME on this website even more.

Game are asking customers to pre-order the Nintendo Switch for £999.99.

Ehm, technically they're not...

Until we receive an official price from Nintendo, a temporary price of £999.99 will be given to the Nintendo Switch console. This placeholder will show through the checkout process and on your confirmation email, but you will not be charged this amount. At a later date, the confirmed price will be guaranteed to those who have pre-ordered.

Ordered 10 ready for ebay X)

Hi, moved over to misc as there is currently no price. Thanks

If there's no deposit and it is possible to cancel, surely there's no harm in pre-ordering.

We are posting placeholder prices now?

deffo a placeholder price

They don't know how much stock they will get so can't guarantee pre orders will get a console on release day either. Seems a bit naff

Im no fan of GAME, but this seems to be a bashing thread...

Lots of companies use placeholders and don't even say why, at least GAME has given the reasoning and advised they will change as more info becomes available.

If I could vote cold id do so because of the OP and not the deal.

Banned

The OP is just pointlessly shaming GAME for no good reason. Is he also going to do the same for GameStop UK and ShopTo? No.

They clarified...

Agree its common practice for some retailers to do this.Gamestop/Bestbuy (cant remember which) is doing the same in the US, $500 or so.

So here's the point, Game have quickly announced the pre-order for an item where they have no idea of stock, price, release date or if they can guarantee allocation - the latter being the only reason to pre-order. The placeholder price is almost irrelevant because as stated on their website "[we cannot guarantee] whether we will be able to offer you a stand-alone console or bundle." So in effect people don't know exactly what they're pre-ordering. If demand is high Game could turn all console pre-orders into bundles, which could also be at an inflated price if they choose.

Of course everyone has the right not to pre-order, or to cancel their pre-order but as hype for the console grows and availability becomes scarce some people will pay more, especially if everywhere else has sold out. Someone mentioned that other companies do this too, which is true but that doesn't make this practice right.

Personally I don't believe any company should be offering pre-orders until they know the price, their allocation and the exact package they're offering for sale.

its GAME the price sounds about right to me

They said ages ago it would be a holder price and not to pre order using PayPal while it is at this price...

Keep digging, you'll hit China sooner or later.

There's something wrong with Game. They're mental.

Oh, others are doing same thing? They all are then, not just game.

In fairness, they leave themselves open for a bit of bashing. VR demo?

My intention was quite clear in my original post but I felt I had to expand upon this for clarification purposes. If you disagree and feel Game are justified in their actions then it would interesting to hear why you support this practice, rather than make lame quips that don't add anything to the discussion.

As opposed to you clearly ignoring the post details where I stated "They admit this price will change but in theory Game could charge whatever they want as the console approaches release and demand increases. Then why do you keep returning to this thread with absolutely nothing worthwhile to contribute? I'd suggest you stop, but I have a feeling you won't be able to help yourself.

The Nintendo Switch price might have been just leaked way ahead of time by the Canadian website of Toys “R” Us.

The listing is for $329.99 Canadian dollars, which roughly equates to $245 – a price that could be rounded to $249 in the US and possibly €249 for Europe or £195 so maybe £199 U.K. Of course, there's a chance it could merely be a placeholder but it would certainly be an oddly specific and fitting choice for that purpose!?

If that price is true, they have a winner on their hands..

Reports are emerging that this year's Pokemon Sun and Moon will be making it's way to Nintendo's console next year.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are finally out next week, but it now appears that it won't be a Nintendo 3DS exclusive.

Instead, the game looks set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch console in 2017, and is under development under the name Pokemon Stars.

The name suggests that the game will be a combined version of Sun and Moon, in the same way that Yellow was a combination of Red and Blue and Platinum was a combination of Silver and Gold.

A Poke-first

This will be the first ever time a full Pokemon game will appear on a home console. Pokemon characters have appeared in versions of the Super Smash Bros games, and the Nintendo 64 received a Pokemon game called Pokemon Stadium.

Eurogamer, which first reported the news, is claiming that multiple unnamed sources are stating the game has been developed in parallel with the handheld versions, and as such is already a long way into development.

The game will also apparently feature connectivity with the handheld versions, allowing you to transfer Pokemon between the two via the Pokemon Bank app.

The news tallies with previous comments from Game Freak which suggested that they were looking to develop games for the Switch (then known as the NX).

Apparently the game is expected to launch late next year after slipping from its early 2017 planned launch date.
