oh and before anyone asks, i have checked the wiring also

Have you selected them as the primary device?(In the past sometimes mine defaults to optical output despite having nothing plugged into it) failing that go into properties for the device and make sure volume is turned up and its not muted.

do you mean in control panel, i have done this, in the drop down menu there is only 1 option.

i tried searching the bios but there is no mention of sound or anything.

and yes have checked if it muted or if volume is low, everything seems to be fine, im totally baffled

not muted, first thing i checked, volume is high also.

iv tried the bios, unless im missing something i can't seem to find anything to do with the sound/audio. the computer is made by advent so they block some stuff from the bios, but im sure they wouldn't block the audio option, lol

device manager says its working fully, im just confused

Have you tried manually downloading the latest drivers to see if there is an issue with the ones Windows is installing?

Is the graphic equaliser moving? are you sure there isnt an digital output on it and the analog is disabled? try clicking "show disconnected devices" and same "show disabled devices"

iv downloaded some drivers (very hard to find) but when i try to install them they won't install, saying they couldn't find a better match than you have.

erm, please explain in a dumber term, how do i do this, lol

Not sure about XP but in vista you go into control panel and click on audio and it lists the sound devices you have just right click and it will give you some options, also try say running a mp3/video whatever so you know sound is being produced, the little grey box should change to different heights of green to indicate audio is being transferred.

what happens if you right click on the High Definition Audio entry on that list & uninstall?

it looks like you have three audio devices there ,one onboard ,one tv tuner and one on the graphics card,i have the feeling that windows is using one of the other audio devices that you arent connected to but not having XP i cannot remeber how to check,

the tv card i installed, i don't use it it came with the pc, shall i take it out?

i recently changed my gpu around, and installed some drivers, but the sound wasn't working before this change, so i doubt it is that.

which one is my sound card?

I'm stumped. If I was in your situation I'd go and by a soundcard & be done with it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

lol, thats what im thinking, i have got a sound card but i am limited in space inside the system, oh well will have to see what i can do.

which one is the sound card driver from them 3 anyway, i have disable 2 of the 3 but still no sound, just wondering if that would help?

I'd guess the 'Via High Definition Audio - Via 3310(UAA) is your on-board soundcard

I think your audio device should be the realtek ac97 but it isnt on there

Sorry just looked on advent site and it is the VIA® VT1708
