Give it a bang against the wall. Always works for me
Volume down and off at the same time should reset it.
is it new battery time? Could be as simple as that

yeap tried that
Hardreset via Keys:
Charge your phone. Turn off your Nokia 800. Hold Volume Down + Camera + Power
Release Power, but hold Volume Down + Camera for 5 secs. Release buttons
Phone will start with factory settings without prompting
Tap power on button about 30 times
What did you do to cause the problem?

nothing
Tried a different charger / USB lead ?

Note, the Noks have a 2 year guarantee. I bought my 800 online from Dial a Phone and the screen has got fainter and fainter after about 18 months use. Spoke to them and they told me to send it to them or take it into Phones4u for repair which I've done.

Bought a Lumia 630 in the meantime and its MUCH better so will sell on the 800 when its fixed
