    Nokia N95 8GiG - TomTom (GPS) Problem

    Hi All,

I have manged to put TomTom onto my N95.
I have installed a prgram called "bt" that allows TomTom to use the built in GPS reciver.

When I load up TomTom it asks to connect to a GPS device, I point it to BiNPDA GPS.

However on the next page it says "Connecting to GPS device..." and stays like this all the time.

I have wonderd outside for a good 10mins but still the same msg
(i thought it was after a GPS Signal)

It appears that its not using the built in GPS reciver.
Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

    Cheers!

i put tomtom on mine but couldnt get the gps to pick up. so i got a co pilot gps

You need to open the GPSd application and leave it running as this is the interface that transfers the GPS co-ordinates from the internal GPS receiver to the BiNPDA virtual device, which in turn is read by the TomTom software.

Shouldnt do as its only communicating with the GPS receiver. It doesnt cost me anything when I use it. The network signal is just to get a gain on where abouts you are initially, it doesnt use any data just the network signal. Remember once you open the GPSd app then click 'Hide' this will leave it running in the background. When you are finished using TomTom then go back into apps and click exit.

When you get a storng enough signal you will see this in the GPSd program as you will see the GPS co-ordinates being updated. I can never get it to work indoors tho, I always need to be outside.

Ok, make sure you have bluetooth on (it should ask you to switch bluetooth on when you open TomTom tho).

When TomTom is open, click on the middle navigation button on the keypad, then item 5 Change Preferences...skip along the pages until you see GPS Status, once in there select 'Other Bluetooth GPS Receiver', it will then show you a list of devices, select the BiNPDA device from the list. then click done.

when you return to the TomTom navigation page it should say 'Waiting for a valid GPS signal' or it should be receiving the co-odinates and updating the navigation screen
