maybe the protestors who feel a need to protest about Trump could possibly go and protest at the border between the north and south.
I would chip in something towards it.

Go and visit? Have you checked Holiday Pirates?

Except the UN does impose sanctions. Not sure what else you're expecting short of some form of regime change.

It's a complex situation not helped by the fact that the population is wildly uninformed.

That won't happen, most of the snowflake protesters don't even know what they're protesting about, it's just lily Allen and jk Rowling have told them to do it.

What can you do with North Korea?

The country has basically no infrastructure, the population have little or no education and most of them are fanatically loyal to the Kim's. Who would take on 25+ million starving North Koreans? China? doubtful and I doubt even South Korea would want re-unification, its not like Germany.

They're basically untouchable now anyway since they've gone nuclear, that is unless they do something stupid.

People will protest in greater numbers for things they have a greater affinity for. I'm not sure how normal person doesn't understand or the influence that the United States has on the uk culturally.

Well Obama used to pen strongly worded letters, I'm hoping trump does something far more concrete about it. Don't mind Iranians having nukes, they can keep Israel and Saudi Arabia in check, but not a madman dictator. China won't like the millions of immigrants, but tough.

Yeah but Donald Trump is literally Hitler. I kid you not. I was told this at work today.

He is censoring the press, like Hitler, by by-passing them and talking directly to the American people.

What a terrible man. Fancy communicating directly with the people who you represent? Who does he think he is?

Next he will be delivering on his election promises. Disgraceful, he's worse than Satan. In fact he literally is Satan.

And you'll end up glowing like a Windscale resident...

I would actually love to go there, and Ukraine round Chernobyl i rank them as similar places of curiosity and slightly below them, cuba.

And China but my mum said thats crap as they railroad you round all the nice modern bits and wont let you near the "real" china, she's been cuba as well had the freedom to be wowed and inspired by their ingenuity and socialist spirit, i fear their uniqueness will be lost soon cuba is a inspiration to the world

Which madman dictator? Trump?

Here's where call of duty political theory crashes headlong into the tedious world of international politics and you can't just restart when you mess up. North Korea is about as contained as a nation can be right now. Anymore and you risk millions of lives in South Korea.

Gung ho cowboy politics isn't how the world works.

Bypassing the press and telling the people about fictional incidents in Sweden?

Delegitimising the media and attacking judges is exactly what dictators start doing but it was probably hard to take that all in at work when you're trying to remember whether it was a strawberry or vanilla milkshake.

Hi, I speak for all liberals. We think North Korea is a disgusting regime but we're not sure invading the nuclear weapon armed-country is a great idea. Should we commence military action?

Yes, we wouldn't want a free press who could report on stuff and hold lying politicians to account now would we? Imagine them pointing out when politicans just make stuff up like massacres at Bowling Green or one in Sweden in order to further their own bigoted ends? Next thing you know, there may even be complaints and attacks on the independent judiciary when they act well, sort of like you know, independently and uphold the laws of the land when politicians want to ignore such inconveniences in order to further their own bigoted agendas.

Perhaps things are bad in NK, but are they exactly as our media would have us believe?

I'm not suggesting it's all a bed of roses, of course not, almost all reports we have points to it being far from it.

What I'm suggesting is perhaps checking out other sources.

I'm very fortunate to have many South Korean friends through church, and most of the things they tell us paint a more informed picture than that offered by our media.

Almost all my SK friends laugh at the NK's threats of nuclear war - I find their attitudes funny - they were all conscripts and they've all spent time on the border(some are there now), and they make it sound like they're having a laugh winding up the NK troops on the other side.
Surprisingly, none of them are in favour of SK getting nuclear weapons, despite the nutjob next door being armed to the teeth with them.

An even more informed opinion can be had from many NK's who have escaped and are now living in SK.
My SK friends have listened to them via SK media, and have spoken with them in person, and there are often big differences in what they say to tv and what they say to people in the street - and most especially how like most migrants they are happy to be here at first but soon begin to find fault with so many things in their new country, some of them even wishing they had never left NK (or at least muttering such to SK friends and occasionally journos - can be found online).
The views of these former NK's are particularly interesting, sometimes very insightful, other times surprising.

Thankfully, we don't need to listen to just anybody these days, we can go online and read things ourselves (though, not in NK), and providing we scrutinise the sources, we can often get a more informed idea of such places and people, than that offered via our own media.

And, just incase anyone thinks I'm defending NK - it's a place I would most definitely avoid, mostly because of what my SK friends have told me.
All I'm suggesting is perhaps our media doesn't always give us quite as much information as can be gleaned elsewhere, and may be far more informative.

Oh I see, it was silly talk.

You racist rights don't like being called thick but when you cannot comprehend the difference between attempting to police the world and sucking up to a big playground bully it does seem fully justified.

I'm sure if supply teacher May was to go over to N. Korea, cosy up with Kim and then roll out the red carpet for him to come over here then there would be a lot of outcry.

Trolls are resurfacing eh, don't waste your breath on the indoctrinated, truth is flexible for them.

The UN can't do anything about North Korea because China has their back, and China sits on the security council and so can veto any resolutions they don't want. Going to war with North Korea would almost certainly lead to war with China, and no one wants that. There are signs the Chinese are starting to lose patience with Kim Jong-un though, with the recent banning of coal imports.

The thing is, if the current North Korean regime does fall, it would create one of the biggest humanitarian crises ever, there are 25 million people living there, the vast majority have been brainwashed since birth and have very little knowledge of the outside world, and most are living in extreme poverty. It would cost billions just to feed them properly, and then they'd probably need some sort of deprogramming to adjust to reality. Their entire economy would need restructuring so they could become self-sufficient (they currently have one of the lowest GDP per capita in the world), which again is going to cost billions.

Who is going to pay for it all? The Chinese don't want to, which is why they continue to prop up the regime because it's far cheaper for them. The US won't want to, especially under Trump. South Korea have been threatened with annihilation by the North for decades, so I doubt they have much inclination to help their neighbour. Who else is left? Europe is already dealing with a refugee crisis so won't want another one, and Russia won't want to help because there's not really anything in it for them. Unless Kim Jong-un does something stupid like attacking the South no one has any need to upset the status quo, and as we've seen in Iraq sometimes upsetting the status quo can have unforeseen consequences.

give them livestock, seeds & tools to farm plus boats & nets to fish, they're already receiving Food Aid mostly from China which would need to increase slightly but with a collective effort from many other nations it would only be short term.

I have no doubt it could be done, but nobody seems prepared to stir that hornet's nest at the moment. You only need to look at Iraq and Afghanistan to see that overthrowing an oppressive regime and replacing it with a stable government isn't that easy.
