"nouvelle cuisine"-anyone actually had this on a night out?

Seriously-who in the real world goes to restaurants that serve their food on a huge plate, decorated with a coupla squiggles of sauce and a piece of meat the size of a 2 pound coin in the centre?

Tv chefs have a lot to answer for by conning the british public into falling for this utter nonsense imho-fair enough if you are taking a small hamster out for dinner but anyone else would surely be unsatisfied.

Could you care less if the chef has a michelin star?

And the prices?lmfao! walked past jamie olivers restaurant in london recently and saw the lunchtime menu outside-bowl of soup-28 quid!

Had this in Gadas in Majorca recently, had starter which consisted of some seafood and a squirt of illuminous foam, the main was baby chicken about the size of a rat and desert was fuit salad, all this for 30 euros.
Went for a Big Mac straight after

I have and TBH it wasn't the portion size but the ridiculous food ( this, that and the other with shavings of white truffle and anchovies or whatever!) that makes me agree with you.

Oh yes - been there. Theres nothing worse than paying a fortune for in effect having nothing to eat - then having to call at the chippie on the way home!

I guess I'll have to be the odd one out and say it's nice to go out for a nice meal and have the whole atmosphere of being waited on and served, not to say that the chips and kebabs aren't fun too, just in a different way.

You have to be the right type of person to really appreciate and enjoy such a meal.

LOL much [email protected] "nouvelle cuisine" on a night out....usually the "nouvelle cuisine" is what gets produced after the pubs empty or at some point in the morning when the hangover kicks in and the dockers breakfast arrives...

It was a simple typo. I think most people would have actually realised that considering I used the word not long before. Oh well:roll:

Also, I meant the complaint about portion size/novelle cuisine/reverse snobbery - not anorexia. Again, i assumed that was obvious.

nothing is particularly clear when you quote one word  did know it was a typo i jst like to annoy you, it aint too hard

you could  but im great value for money :p:lol:

used to have to have this sort of stuff a lot when I worked for one of the upscale hotel chains and had to have dinner with important guests/clients

never liked it and was never full after it but it was a necessary evil of the job, people just liked it because of the extra special service and that they could pretend to be someone they are not.

has gone out of fashion recently thank god,I would never ever pay for it.

Our family go to plenty of restuarants, sometimes - we have to book months in advance and I have to agree that nouvelle cuisine just makes me laugh it's ridiculous. Also my children tend to not even touch it - it appears I'm dragging them up on beef sausages! You have to eat before you eat out -lol.

I know there is the ambience of the place and the company that makes the meal special, but I've had that in many cheap and expensive restuarants, that I know I wouldn't willingly go nouvelle cuisine!

Just to point out that those complaining about 'nouvelle cuisine' haven't actually mentioned any particular restaurants.

Many of the best restaurants abandoned this style of cooking in the 1980s so I'm not exactly sure who is the target of the moaners.
