Now TV - will this improve signal reception on a tv

Found 6th Jan 2015
Hi, thinking about buying my daughter a now TV box.

She has a portable TV in her bedroom. Does anyone know if this will improve her picture as i'm thinking it will come via broadband? Or am I incorrect.

Many thanks

The now TV box is a box for TV services. Can you give some more information regarding improve picture?

It won't improve her signal as it's for ondemand and subscription services via broadband.

It hasn't got a DVB tuner or antenna/satellite capability, Works via broadband and needs about 2mb broadband, Works via wifi ( Speed likely to suffer ) or Ethernet ( Wired = benefit of virtually maximum speed ).

And quality is upto 720p, On a little portable that would be very good.

You know you can't watch normal TV through the now TV box except for play back services like iplayer etc?

If she's got decent bb speed then content via the now TV box should stream fine. But as above, you can't watch live TV through it.

On the now TV box? How?

Don't know about the official Now TV device, but the android app / chromecast lets you watch the live channels included in the package - I think there is about 14 channels that stream live TV on the entertainment package.

If you have a device to control the chromecast it may be a good solution.

You could then use a load of different apps to stream different channels or other recorded content all for £19.99

Op, if you have good bb connection then as above poster has said, invest in a chromecast. You'll get a lot more than what nowtv offers with all the benefits of now TV

But the apps on nowtv don't allow for live streaming via the apps... Do they? I couldn't see a option.

You talking about the nowtv box? Or chromecast mate?

it does have a live option

Has the portable got HDMI socket as that's the only video output on a Now TV box?

No it's not. It's got an A/V out socket for which cables are available separately.

Why are people suggesting a chromecast (which is a great product … Why are people suggesting a chromecast (which is a great product generally), when it only has iplayer, no itvplayer and no 4od, not great as a TV replacement. For iplayer, itvplayer and 4od?

It has a live Sky channels, not your usual BBC, ITV etc.

Also OP keep in mind you need to pay a monthly fee to use the service, the cost will vary depending on what package you take.

If you already have Sky in the house it might be worth looking at getting a second box.

I already said it had live sky channels in the post you quoted, so why … I already said it had live sky channels in the post you quoted, so why quote me, say a really vague comment, just to when questioned say the exact same thing I did?

If anything it's your post that is vague. You say it doesn't have live TV, then go on to say it's got live channels. That's not really clear for someone who doesn't know what it offers.

I was just trying to be clearer for the OP, as well as point out that if they have Sky they could look at a second box instead.

Nothing wrong with being helpful!
