NPOWER - Energy price increases

So, Npower, and no doubt (shortly) all the other energy providers, want to increase their prices for gas by 17.5% and Electric by around 12%. NPower told me that the reason is that oil has hit $100 a barrel. Anyone know what the hell the price of oil has to do with the price of gas and electricity?? Hopefully, the energy watchdog will issue a timely slap to Npower and all those other greedy barsteward suppliers out there, denying them this ridiculous increase. Bad enough people may lose their homes this year, now they might not even be able to afford to heat them in the meantime. This rise simply isn't justified. Energy prices in Europe and the US are far far cheaper than in the UK. Anyone else fed up of being ripped off in this increasingly rubbish country of ours??

Quite a lot actually (i think) (i might be getting my fossil fuels mixed up)

You also fail to mention everything else thats going on:

1) Council tax rises above inflation (again)
2) Dairy produce rising by double figure percentages
3) Cereal products rising by double figure percentages
4) Ales and beers rising by up to 50%
5) Bread rising by double figure percentages
6) Farm produce rising above inflation
7) Petrol continuing its massive upward trend
Massive rises in public transport costs
9) House prices crashing
10) Credit harder to obtain for those struggling because of all of the above

I can see 2008 being a year of mass unemployment and mass reposessions. I have always voted labour so unfortunately I have to shoulder part of the blame for the mess our government have got this country in.

Do you get your gas and electricity delivered by the tanker load then

It's BS, if they invested in renewable resources rather than lining their shareholders pockets blah blah.....

Nuclear, go for it and **** greenpeace!

Nuclear is by far a cleaner and more efficient form of energy than any fossil fuel.

Yes I am a nuclear physicist. :whistling:

Quote from ]BBC News

"Npower is the supply business of UK-based RWE Npower, itself a subsidiary of German energy group RWE.

RWE Npower also operates a number coal, natural gas, oil-fired and renewable energy power stations across the UK.

Its most recent full-year financial results show that RWE Npower made an operating profit of 512m euros (£383m) in 2006. "

Yes, but the general public are rightly concerned of the safety issues about what COULD go wrong with nuclear power.

It is fine where investment is kept at a high level, but would you trust our government to build 5 or 6 brand new nuclear power stations without cutting corners?

Toshiba Mini reactor sounds good to me. None too happy with my Toshiba LCD TV though, so lets hope they do better with a nuclear reactor. On the upside, perhaps the kids will go off to school with that contented orange glow - even if the Ready Brek has run out!!

If everyone left NPower in their droves, then the other companies would rethink their position. I guarantee it.
This country is one big bloody rip-off. Something should be done. Direct action oughta do it.

Its customer lethargy that lets bank/power companies rip people off like this. Some bloke was moaning about bank charges on the radio the other day and the interviewer asked why he just didnt switch to a different bank. He responded by saying 'he couldnt be bothered"! How BG & BT still have 80% of the UK customers is beyond me when they consistently offer the most expensive charges for the worst customer service! Switch to Atlantic Electric & Gas. Cheapest power supplier for the last 3 years in a row. www.uswitch.com

Or Southern Electric. Same thing. I'm with Southern.
Regarding BT and BG, people are stupid. That's why.

Yep - very stupid, especially considering they are normally the ones doing all the moaning about rip-off prices yet sit on their hands and do bogger all about it. I just did a comparison on uswitch, and BG and Npower were 40% more than Atlantic! £890 per year for gas and electric and Npower & BG came out at £1250! Come on people - spread the work and leave these rip off utilities / banks.

I think it worth mentioning that I have had excellent customer service from Atlantic and have stayed with them for five years.
