Nvidia GTX 460 1GB advice please?

    Hi all,
I am going to buy a GTX 460 1gb i the next few days but need to buy from Amazon-due to vouchers. With that in mind the Palit is the cheapest but i have a small doubt about the ram not having any heatsinks. So the amazon.co.uk/PNY…8-1
    or the
    amazon.co.uk/KFA…-13

look interesting choices. Although maybe just the Gigabyte 1gb. Can i ask for some views from you guys please ?

eh?, seems only fair you should share your reasoning after coming asking for advice, maybe its something others should know?

I mentioned the PNY in my original "coming asking for advice" question so it cannot be that outrageous a choice?! It came down to price-i had to use Amazon and yesterday the PNY GTX 460 1GB for sale on there was 135 quid-cheaper than even a Palit plus i liked the fact the fan was over the chip rather than along the card. In Fact, the PNY is really just a reference (standard) Nvidia design for the 460 with PNY stickers on it!

Also the Gigabyte seemingly has problems according to Newegg’s consumer reviews.

cool, no not outrageous just baffling given the context, or lack of it as the case may be.
had a few PNY products in the early days wasn't too impressed, not with faults but failure to comply with reference designs, but are u sure of the £135 price diff?
normally go for the upper brands myself even at a price disadvantage due to warrenty dealings.
TBH I never trust consumer reviews, the bulk of computer components are sold to people who don't really know what they are doing with them, combined with bigger brands will sell more so get more bad reviews, risky strategy methinks.

Is the 560 not being launched this month?

Yeah the GTX 560 is supposed to be released 21st Jan but i guess that means the GTX 460 will be even better value. Oh well- to be honest the 560s look to be sold with high clock rates but the 460s can be overclocked to the same sort of levels and they will offer more cost performance now than a freshly released model.

No sorry i meant it was £135 which is cheaper than a Pailt is currently available on Amazon. My grammar must be crap.

After a few days of using it i can report the PNY GTX 460 1GB is a fantastic card which is currently cheaper than a Palit!
I bought a standard PNY GTX 460 1GB from Amazon (via Ballicom International) and have it overclocked to 837/1674/1890 with no issues at all and temps under heavy gaming at around 70 to 80c after 2/3 hours gaming. I know there are so many choices out there of graphics cards but i would buy a standard GTX 460 1GB and overclock it yourself.Currently PNY are giving lifetime warrenties if you register the card on the PNY website so they must be pretty confident the cards they sell are well made! And they do seem to be.

In fact, i emailed PNY to ask them what is the exact difference between the standard PNY GTX 460 and the overclocked one sold by PNY and the answer was,"The only difference is the embedded video bios, in which the working clock frequencies of both the GPU and video memory of the O/C version are higher indeed"

You can do this overclocking yourself in seconds-very easy to do and can save you money! Forget the GTX 560 as for the money a GTX 460 will do 90% of the same performance but is much cheaper.

Buy it esp. for the price it is now!
