    o2 Broadband any good ?

I'm currently with Virginmedia BB, i only have BB and pay £38.25 a month for the 20mb service, i do alot of downloading and the worse they have done is reduced the speed.

Wondered if o2 were anygood and if they get funny if you download loads ? dont want the dreaded letter turning up on the doorstep :giggle:

Good idea, i already have tv with sky so that might be an idea

Definitely move. O2 are one of the best ISP's you will find.

    Ignore 2 posts above.

Do you have virgin broadband through your phone line or is it cable?

BeThere > O2BB for over two years now.

Actually unlimited unlike most others, UK support on 0800 2300202

£7.50/month now for ages due to O2 Mobile, makes everyone else look like extortionists.

    Through Cable

I got O2 after having Virgin for years
no problems and English customer services, well worth the money

and no download limits or cutting speed.

Only thing to do is check the distance from your exchange to see what kind of speeds your going to get first

    SuperEd

got o2 here aswell and cant fault one bit, excellent CS

i run 9 terminals and 2 xboxes on the net at the same time without issue Bethere has been a godsend for £17.50 a month and we are constantly getting 17.5Mbit/s as we are close to the exchange
    no throttling no restrictions

ps i dont work for them :-)

o2 are brilliant, i pay £7.50 and am lucky to get the full allocation on my line as i live close to the exchange.

Also, didnt have to wait more than 10 seconds on the phone before I was connected to their technical line - who were in fact brilliant. You won't go far wrong with o2 tbh.

not sure if its fixed yet, but b sure u sign up to llu and not access of o2 bb if you switch

I have been with O2 for over a year now.

+ Close to the exchange and get around 18MB download
+ not been throttled at all
+ Good enough price (working in at around £10 a month)
+ Service is good when you eventually get through
    + UK call centres

    - O2 were having a few DNS problems so I now use Open DNS
    - Although the support line is free.. Sometimes you can be waiting over half an hour
    - Their non LLU service if you are far from the exchange is supposed to be terrible

Check the speed you would receive on the website ..

Use Quidco for £50 cashback and £50 credit on your O2 mobile phone if you have one

This post might put your mind at rest with regards to downloading.

I'm with o2 couldn't recommend them enough. Your speed will dependent on distance from the telephone exchange as well as other factors. Don't forget you'll need a BT or equivalent line and you may have to pay install costs.

Just cancelled my Virgin, and will be joining o2, £15 a month

Just looked on quidco but cant see anything for broadband, i dont have an o2 phone so will have to pay top notch, still cheaper than what i'm paying now

Found the quidco, excellent stuff

Yeah if you have a O2 phone I would defo go with O2, cant fault them from what I hear. Im with Be* who O2 own, and its excellent, cheap as chips, 15mb avg. v.reliable customer service is great!

Get an O2 PAYG Sim card and top it up for £10 every 3 month.
This will bring the cost down to £10 a month saving you £20 over the year.

personally i would never go from a virgin bb cable connection to adsl … personally i would never go from a virgin bb cable connection to adsl its like going back in time did virgin retentions not offer u anything ?

I didn't want to as i know it's going to be slowwww compared to what i have now, but £38 a month is too much, nope not offered anything, they asked why i wanted to cancel and i said i can get BB for £15 a month, if you would like to reduce what i pay you i may stay, but they didn't

OP, you're being mugged off lol.. Virgin 50Mb is £38!!! 20Mb should be £30 at the most or £25 with a Virgin phone line.

O2 are the best ISP I've had, although I'm slightly biased as I live by my exchange and actually get max speeds. But for £22.50 a month, I get 20Mb down and 2.5Mb up. You don't get that kinda speed, even on Virgin 50Mb, plus the price drops to £17.50 if you're with o2 for mobile.

I await the call, although i will only stay if they offer it for £20 a month :whistling:

Just had a look on their site and you are right £30 a month for 20mb BB, bar stewards :w00t: i haven't a virgin phoneline, although they did try to sell me one when i was cancelling

Not going to sign up to o2 until mine is cancelled, so they have a month to try to keep me :giggle:

    the porter;8204596

    have i read that right?

Apologies, should have been more specific. You don't get that kinda upload speed anywhere else.

What, you're not going to phone Virgin and ask why you're paying more than you're meant to be? I'm pretty sure those prices have been the same for at least two or three months, so I would demand a refund if I were you. You should be due at least £15 back dependent on how long you've actually been getting overcharged.

Virgin's price and pathetic service and their horrible, awful, dibilitating throttling system means O2BB looks like paradise in comparison.

I am going to ring them and ask them why i was paying more than stated on their site, and that i want a refund, but the CS are so dreadful i dont think i will get anywhere

again if you get the retentions based in the uk they usually bend over … again if you get the retentions based in the uk they usually bend over backward to sort the price out unless im just lucky

Desperation to tie you into another 12month contract so as not to lose you whereas outside of your contractual period you are free to choose from the market...

Retentions are irrelevant for that particular issue, they're being overcharged and so is due back any money they've overpaid. Obviously though, a good point to raise with retentions is how unhappy they are about the fact they were being overcharged and that it's another reason they are considering leaving...
