Your welcome

Now my question is about 3GS's which have recently been bought on PAYG but maybe for contract phones?

How many iphones can be unlocked on one contract? Considering people may have handed down old ones

For iPhone on Pay & Go, unlocking can take place 12 months after you've bought your iPhone for a one-off £15 fee which will be deducted from your airtime balance.

Get ****ed o2 - I'll keep jailbreaking and unlocking for free you pathetic group of utter muppets that will never ever get any of my business again.

Not suprised like.

Asking for 12 months tops ups on payg AFTER you've just paid a min of £440 got the phone is taking the p (royally).
And then another 15 quid !

Do they not know that free software can unlock ?

I'm going to be looking on the Apple store site tomorrow to see what their doing, 2 different locked iPhones one for O2 and one for Orange ? Or unlocked with a choice of sims ? What do you think the odds are ??

Typical I am going on Holiday on Wednesday - I would save a bundle if this had been done last week.

Great post and thanks for the infromation!

Bump, more people should know about this.
Good alternative to Blacksn0wm if you are on contract!

Has anyone gone through this yet?
Does it ask for the IMEI number of the iphone or does it know already.
If it asks for the IMEI, I could easily get someone I know on the Iphone contract to unlock my PAYG 3GS for me

If the unlock is worked the same way as other phones, it's based on the IMEI.

BUT I'd think you have to supply your number as well. If you're on contract they can check that the IMIE matched the number and is the one they issued you with. So your idea, good as it is, wouldn't work as the IMEI on your payg wouldn't match the one issued with your mates contract. . .

Supermod

Nice.

i think this unlock will permanently unlock the iphone. so even if u update ur firmware it would still be unlocked init

unbelievable that I will have to wait 12 months to unlock my PAYG 3GS legally, complete and utter joke.

Even so, i have submitted all my details in the hope that i might get the unlock anyway or at the very least i will get a phone call or email and i can start my arguement against them!

Stoopid question time!! I bought my 3G second hand from someone and they got it as an upgrade, therefore the handset was a contract one. It was brand new and sealed but I do have the upgrade receipt.

If I enter the details, i assume it will then permanently unlock my 3G - is that right?

It should work fine, it mentions that they will unlock ALL iPhones used on a contract

"Pay Monthly customers

Your iPhone can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and place a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term on your contract. "

And yes, it would be permanent!

ooohh.. I want a 3GS but I want it unlocked officially..

Don't want to buy it now and then have to wait 12 months !

if anyone gets them to do this before the 12 months.. please let me know.

Email from o2:

Hello *****

Thanks for getting in touch with us for unlatching code for your iPhone.

I understand that you want to get your iPhone unlocked so that you can use it with another Service Providers SIM card.

I'm sorry but currently it isn't possible to unlock the iPhone. Your iPhone is restricted to use only on our network in the United Kingdom. This is the reason we're unable to unlock an iPhone so that it can be used with another providers SIM card. You can view this information in our iPhone terms and conditions. Here's the link where you can view our iPhone terms and conditions:

Just to let you know, any attempt to unlock an iPhone so that it can be used with another providers SIM card might make it permanently unusable.

I realise this isn't the answer you were looking for, but I hope I've explained everything clearly.

Thanks again for taking time to email us.

Have a lovely evening!

Kind regards

i have. it asks for the imei, the probably match it to the contract details to confirm that they are unlocking a phone that has paid off its subsidy.

i have a few iphones as i do dev work and was a beta tester for the original iphone when it came out in europe, i am hoping that they will unlock them them all since they arent on any contract!

Now there's a thought, I got my Phone direct from apple, didn't use the SIM that came with it, I use my O2 Simplicity Sim which is a 1 month rolling contract which is not PAYG, let see how they get around that then as I'm sure they will try!

How did they unlock it?
Did they send a code by email?
Did you have to connect to itunes to unlock it?

Nope.

I just got a text to say it was unlocked - as I said above. Just send them a text as instructed and the text confirms its been done. Presumably there is something embedded in it - but I dont know.

the iphone is not locked in the same way as other phones. the official unlock code is only known by apple. when o2 organises for your phone to be unlocked they are in fact telling apple to enable it to be unlocked. you then place another operators sim in your phone, connect it to your pc, itunes detects "hey this isn't normal i need to chat with the apple servers". the apple servers reply back with the unique unlock code and itunes applies it to your phone.
