What's the deal with pensioners and driving? There was an accident near me caused by a 84 year old woman.. Is there not A cut off age?

where i live their are way to many old people and their all rubbish at driving. Old drivers are as dodgey as a jammy dodger

nope as long as they are healthy and keep taking the tests...although i agree with you having followed a dodderer down our main road doing 20..then took her 5 mins to pull out..grrrrrrrr

near me 2 pensioners (80s) got a new car drove 3 or 4 miles decided to swap drivers so pulled in on the worse dual carriageway..both were killed

i also think you young uns have a lot to answer to! someone i know had 3 accidents in 6months inc turning the car over when DUI..never killed anyone so insurance went up..but no prosecution!

my partners grandad was driving up until last year and hes 90 this year, dispite his family telling him they think its time he gave but up he wouldnt listen, he ended up buying 2new cars within a year and a half, i was surprised he could still drive as he had a bad leg. he finally gave up after he had 2 small bumps. i think he just didnt want to give up his independance as him and his wife use to go to southport every sunday. i think there should be an age limit to driving. i was stuck behind 2old dearsdoing 30 in a 40zone today i can understand them being careful but if they cant do the correct speed limit then they shouldnt be driving.

I don't have an issue with them going slower than norm, but I was thinking reaction time etc..

i understand

My granny drove til she was 91-she was absolutely dangerous!-too small to see over the steering wheel so she had 3 sofa cushions on the drivers seat and then leant forward so her face was pressed right against the windscreen! Nobody would EVER accept a lift from her!

Its a good job old age doesn't come to us all ........ Oh wait !

91, that does seem extreme to still be on the roads. You shouldn't be allowed on motorways at that age.

Just remember, We'll all get older..!!! However suppose by the time I get to that age it'll be a £1,000 a gallon..!!!

Too many under aged drivers want to get behind the wheel.

Truth is, they should wait until their balls have dropped properly.

Phil, have you thought that people tend to side with you more in arguements and discussions because they read your comments in Houses voice?

I think they have to re-apply for a licence every 3 years once they reach 70. I do have a little bit of sympathy for them. A while ago I sold an old car to a 72 year old chap - he needed a car because of his disabled wife. He couldn't rely on taxis and car hire firms wouldn't rent out cars to the elderly so he little option other than to get a car to keep his wife "mobile"

Then again last summer elderly chap blacked out whilst driving crossed the road, drove through nexts doors hedge and ended up in their garden....

This is true. It's the young testosterone-fuelled knob heads that pose the real danger on our roads. Oh, and drink-drivers.
