Off to Barcelona

Hi I am going to Spain and staying just outside (about an hour by train) from Barcelona. Has anybody got any ideas on cheap ways to get around by train and if there is much to keep two boys entertained in Barcelona for the day.Limited budget so cant go mad.
    Thanks in advance.

Forgot to say, the boys are 16 and 12.

take them to the nou camp experience (assuming they like footie!)

I'd recommend getting a metro ticket

Once your in Barcelona most things to do are in walking distance. Las ramblas is a brilliant place to walk through- day or evening. The zoo (Parc De la ciutadella) is great for the full day out and has dolphin shows although is a bit pricey. I'd recommend picking up the AA essentials Barcelona book. mines a few years old now but there's maps and pages with things to do with the kids / places to eat/ best ways to travel. The metro system is recommended although we were broke students and walked everywhere when we went!

Thanks the eldest has been and the youngest doesnt fancy it. Might leave them and just go myself!

Watch your wallets and purses. Lots of street criminals there. Beautiful place though.

Thanks everyone , looks like Metro tickets and plenty of walking .I have a few guide books so shouldn't go too far wrong.

look for the cava cavern sadly not good for young lads but years from now when they return they will go there and impress their mates with the cool knowledge of Barcelona
