OFFICIAL HUKD GADGET THREAD - (HOMEMADE OR OTHERWISE)

Ok, so I've changed the thread slightly to cover all gadgety type projects that people may have bought, made themselves, thought about making or would love to buy if they had the time/money! Or anything else gadgety!

So, if you've got something that comes under that heading then post it up. The more detail etc that you can provide the better this thread will be (within reason!). I'll add some when I've got a bit of spare time, but if others would like to add then I'll aim to keep post #1 updated with all the best gadgety projects we can find.

    Thanks!!!!

    Yo dudes!

I'm designing my new office and am looking for some ideas to make it more gadgety. Maybe simple stuff like built in cup holders and drinks fridge, maybe more technical like touch screen monitors on swivel arms or maybe something for the time I wanna chillax and play games, so maybe 3d screens, surround vision, a hottub lol!

So, what do you think, hit my with your ideas. All have to be reasonably priced, I'm not spening £1000's on speakers for example! Looking for cool stuff for good prices!

    Cheers!

What do ppl think of this?

    http://imageshack.us/m/41/3808/projectortriplescreen.jpg

Basically, the problem with triple screen systems is that you have the bezels of the screens in the way, which means you either have to lose some of the information behind them, or everything's out of line, either way you have them in the middle of the picture that you're trying to watch.

So, how about 2 screens on swivel arms, which can be moved into position behind a board that a projector is pointing at. This means that you can slightly overlap the monitors with the board and project onto it without losing any of the picture behind bezels!

Vibrating chair with electric shock capability

Funny you should say that, I've got a vibrating subwoofer thing that goes on the chair. Kinda like a really weak buttkicker, I don't want to upset the neighbours. But more immersive gaming is cool.

Also want a way to be able to switch between steering wheel and keyboard/mouse quickly and easily. Maybe the steering wheel is permenantly mounted and the keyboard/mouse slide out from underneath, but they'd probably be too low then. Need to think of a way to do that.

In a way I guess you're right. 10 years ago we all were lucky to have a pc with a crt, nowaday if you're like me then you have something like 5 pcs all round the house with lcds/projectors etc. Makes you wonder what the place will look like in 10 years time!

Hit me with some ideas then! I'm thinking I want to decorate it to look a bit like a space ship, you know the really ultra bright white walls that you see in films of the future. What kinda materials you reckon? Like white plastic?

One of my old school friends did their study up two years ago - I can't get a pic cause I don't know them now, but he had a projector on one wall (full size) with 5.1 (rears mounted in ceiling) - sofa and beer fridge on the other. The other two Walls had various comps - one had his tri-screen setup with laptop, the other had a normal desk where he could actually work. There were rotaries blinds on the window, and the Projector wall doubled as a blind when the screen came down - he had an amp in the front corner with a guitar stand (for real guitars and rock band guitars) and from what I remember they had a table pc in their lounge (his dad worked in microsofts prototype dep :p)

Yes mate, this is exactly what I'm talking about!!!

I thought about a racing chair that moves up/down with the game but it's beyond my capabilities and probably expensive too.

I might make a bike for motorcycle games. Using the wiimote and its tilt sensors to control the game, so leaning on the bike would turn you in game. Much the same system could be used to do the accelerator and brakes which I assume are on the handlebars on a motorbike lol, never riden one!!!

It's got to be done mate!

Maybe I'll change this to a home made gadgets thread. Would be cool to see what other ideas people have put together and show others what we've made etc.

I've always wanted to make a racing seat to go with my Logitech G25, but not got round to it yet. I think I'm going to incorporate it into the desk design anyway so it's dual purpose.

I thought £18 was amazing, then I saw you said £18k!

Either way, probably a buttkicker (or maybe 4) would do the job for £400 (I think they're £100 each?).

Easiest way to tech a house out is to add in some home automation. Set up a central server to control it and put mic's in each room - voice controlled items, lights, blinds etc

I like it, tell me more lol!!

I have remote lights and fan already. I guess voice control is a touch too much money for me tho.

and definitely home security - e.g. digitally controlled entry system, no keys

X10 home automation. No wiring needed - it runs and sends data through the mains of the house. A computer with relevent software (not particularly expensive) controls each X10 item - be it a lightbulb attachment, plug socket, motor (for blinds) etc. The computer software uses voice recognition which can hear commands and perform the tasks you want it to do for each X10 item.

A plug socket is about £30, The unit for the computer is about £70. Add as many things as you want and the one computer can take them all.
