Oh the Brexit moaners will not like this

Nissan not only confirms it will stay in Sunderland, but will also bring in an extra model, thought we were all doomed and even though some on this site will try and tell us we are, Nissan won't be the last company to create jobs that's for sure. See it doesn't matter where they get the grants from money is still money.

Fantastic news especially in light of the newly released figures but what do you make of this?

Britain has given Nissan (7201.T) a written commitment of extra support in the event that Brexit reduces the competitiveness of its Sunderland plant, in return for new production investments by the Japanese carmaker, a source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

In addition to unconditional investment aid, Britain pledged in a letter to offer further relief if the terms of Britain's European Union exit ended up harming the plant's performance, the source said.

Apparently the UK economy has grown since Brexit too.

Sit back and wait for the SJWs and remoaners to arrive.

    Edit: too late.

How many periods of negative growth has the construction industry had? What do you personally think of the services sector essentially carrying growth in this country?

    More Brexit threads??

the government just announced grants for business staying in the UK post Brexit so it may seem good that they staying but they most likely will be paying less corporation tax or government grants. it's not going to be like before Brexit.

Well the Japanese made their position clear and they've obviously had the upper hand because May needs to retain these types of businesses, so will be interesting to see just what we've had to give away.

Considering the services sector of the economy is the only thing driving growth and FSI is a big part of that, is that a good thing to 'hope' for?

Construction had a second consecutive quarter of negative growth - there's a word for that. Oh and manufacturing shrunk too. Look past the headline figure of 0.5% growth.

Well put it this way, if Nissan and Toyota went over to EU, then in a trade deal it would be embarrassing as what are we going to trade with to import all the German, French and Italy cars as well as these Japanese ones made in UK! LOL!
    .
And if we stopped buy all of them, either:-
1/ We have to drive around in Rolls and Land Rovers or,
2/ The EU would have to give us massive cash subsidies to import all those cars as we have not enough car quantity nothing to trade with!

The issue is not bankers per se. It is a combination of,
1/ derivatives and swaps exposure, look at Deutshe Bank now,
2/ the deregulation with Big Bang about 30 years ago
3/ lack of competence in the regulators as the best regulators cross the line to the other side, much like best government tax inspectors are attracted by limitless salaries on the other side

Happy to state my car is british made.
It makes me laugh. People moan about the british economy going in the pan, yet they are driving around in a German car. I realise some items it is impossible to buy british (Generally electronics products) but i tend to if there is a choice.

Well since we sell 3 pork pies and a bottle of elderflower cordial to the eu and they sell £100billion worth to us .. We will make a killing on tariffs.

This means any new trade tariffs for the car industry will be paid by us - the British taxpayer. Workers who voted leave thought Nissan couldn't find better workers, but Nissan realised that our government would pay Nissan to stay. Brexit is going to be a series of financial sweeteners and bail outs on the public purse.

What incentives were Nissan given to come here in the first place ?

Just look back in history of any of the big manufacturers they all got incentives to open here, then to keep jobs here and it kept going. However the EU clouded things and gave incentives to move jobs from one country to another.

But better than nothing as we could NOT manage that amount of volume production without the managers getting too big headed as leaders for their own good and our good. When British leaders get too big for their shoes they behave like Royals and Imperialists, just look at Fred Godwin and Philip Green as fine examples. What have they done for us, one says, as extra for their leadership, nothing, in contrast to ex BMW family owner Johanna Maria Quandt who was sober, modest and extremely private as left the BMW business to competent business managers who grew the BMW company organically with no tricks and financial wizardry.

No, we don't stop paying when we invoke Article 50.
