Neem oil applied in dog shampoo during a bath every day until it clears gets rid of the mites. Feed your dog liver to build immune system and avoid starchy foods.

You do not want to leave it, get the treatment for it from a decent vet. This is caused by mites in the skin which are very uncofortable for your pet andnot something you should leave for any longer than necessary imo.

If your vet diagnosed mange, and didn't prescribe any treatment, well you really need to be thinking about changing vets. Normal course of action is baths every couple of days in aludex or the likes and then antibiotics for the further infections the scratching will cause because the dog is being driven insane with mites torturing it's body. Don't as above use anything on the skin apart from prescribed medication, the last thing you want is causing the skin even more irritation. Go to another vets now, and if you have any other pets, mites are truly high risk spreading devices, so prepare to treat all.
