Ok so after 28yrs of waiting I have finally decided to....

save up and buy a Chocolate Labrador puppy!!!! I've always wanted a dog but my parents would never let me have one as a child. Now i'm currently training to become a dog trainer and I've been volunteering at my local dog club, I think the time has come.

Anybody else know of any kennel club approved breeders or have labradors themselves???

Yeh I've heard nothing but good things about the breed. Especailly as it would be my first pet dog. They are notourious chewers though.

Has the fact that it is a 'chocolate' lab anything to do with being female:whistling:

Agree 100% with this. Spray some diluted tabasco sauce on the problems errors and they'll soon stop though

Another trick we've learnt with our pup is when she digs holes in the lawn, bury her poop in it and she won't dig in that area again

Still can't figure out her to get her to keep her gob shut when she has a drink of water though....... more ends up on the floor than in her mouth

Awwwww she's gorgeous!!! I'll be coming to you for tips then! ;-)

We had a choco lab called Zak - we had to give him away unfortunately because he was becoming jealous of our newborn son - bascially he was used to being the baby of the house!

Great dogs, but make sure you watch how much you feed them - see way too many of them waddling along the road.

I'd also advise you to put him/her in a crate when they're a pup - otherwise you're gonna spend a lot of time redecorating your home.

Where Are you located ? I know of some good chocolate pups for sale in the midlands area. I will dig out the number and send it to you.
They would make an excellent puppy for training as they are the offspring of the lab I own and I work him as a drug sniffer dog in the prison service.

He is beautiful, such a shame you had to give him away :-( I totally agree that crate training will be the best thing for him until he is fully house trained. Hopefully by the time I get him I should more less know what I'm doing... I hope! lol

    Good luck with your search!

Always a good idea to get a reputable breeder.

I'd check out the kennel club website - they usually have good breeders listed there.

I'm based in North London. I probably won't be looking to get a pup until nearer xmas. Ideally from Kennel Club registered breeders, As its my first dog I don't mind spending abit more money on a bloodline pedigree

    It's a known fact.

I would personally prefer a labradoodle, when labradors molt.. man they molt. Although I wouldn't swap Locococo for anything, just wish she didnt drop so many damn hairs everywhere lol.

Yeh they need a lot of grooming because they are real fuzzballs!!! I just love the look of a solid chunky chocolate lab. You can't beat them

Incredible amount of hair loss - year round to be honest. Especially noticeable if you have a hard floor - hair clumps just float around everywhere!

Don't really like Labradoodles - they look weird tbh.

We have a golden lab and they are definitely an excellent choice, he is exceptionally placid and great with our kids, beware though they are like a hoover when it comes to food, I find he will eat absolutely anything and everything, if its on the floor he sees it as his, (although there have been a couple of occassions when husband has gone to get his dinner and found it was in the dog!)

He rarely barks either and then only when there is danger or a threat. Barks once then stands and points to the threat silently.

please stop posting piccies of adorable dogs.......Im wanting another one!

Just be careful of the breeder you choose, like most breeds the best pedigree labs are unfortunately unhealthy and can suffer considerably due to this. My granny always had black labs but when her last one passed away she wanted another lab but she couldn't have a pup. After much searching we found someone who was getting rid of a three year old red fox lab male as his son had surpassed him on the hip score and therefore they didn't need him any more. Technically he was extremely high quality and was almost a perfect example of the breed standard however as he grew older he suffered from many medical conditions due to the inbreeing in his family.

I do really like Labradors though, they're obviously big powerful dogs which can be problematic if they're a bit boisterous although many are incredibly gentle for their size - you just have to watch out for them knocking coffee cups off the table with their tales! This is my friend's black lab pup at eight weeks old, she's grown up into a right little troublemaker

Hoping to see the family at the end of the month along with their other black lab who's a lovely gentle soul.

    John

    I have a Golden Lab.

    Good luck.
