on a 2 yr car lease at 10000 miles per yr , can you go over 10000 miles in the 1st yr without paying a penalty?

i have a lease deal at 10000 miles for 2 yrs however have gone over 10000 in the 1st yr, will they check at the end of the 1st yr?

No, as long as the mileage is 20000 or less when you hand it back, you will be OK.

No mate they do not check, if you check your paper work for the car there will be a bit that tells you how much extra per mile you will be charged when you return the car at the end of the lease.

For example I had a car at 10000 miles per year but ended up doing 15000 miles per year, so at the end of the 3 year period I had done 45000 miles, so when I returned the car I was charge 7p a mile over 30000 miles. So I was charged in total 7p x 15000 miles = £1050.
All details of how much per mile if you go over total contract term of car lease will be on your lease docs for car. its more than likely less than 10p a mile.

Some lease companies ask for a mileage reading at the end of each year, but I have never had a bill until the end of the lease for the extra mileage.

some will also lower the price per mile is you let them know you might go over

If you offer to buy the car at the end of the lease, do you still have to pay the excess mileage?

Keep in mind the car may only be insured for 10,000 miles per year, go over the milage and need to make a claim and the insurance may try to avoid paying out.
