Once: Win a Blackberry Storm

Competition Samsung Omina? 'Orrible! Apple iPhone? I don't think so! No, Research in Motion's BlackBerry Storm is the touchscreen mobile to go for this season, says Vodafone, and it's putting its money where its mouth is to give three lucky Register Hardware readers one of the in-demand handsets.

Careful though 'cos if you want to use it then you'll have to get a contract with vodaphone. Also you can't opt out of getting ver spam.

I'm not quite sure about that - as far as I can see the T&Cs say:

winners may need to agree to an airtime contract and/or BlackBerry … winners may need to agree to an airtime contract and/or BlackBerry service subscription with Vodafone to use the device for phone calls and email

Handsets will be supplied tied to the Vodafone network. No airtime or … Handsets will be supplied tied to the Vodafone network. No airtime or BlackBerry service will be provided as part of the competition prize.

Surely this means you can just get the device unlocked or use and existing voda sim? I'd hope so because it's free anyway on an 18month voda contract!

...you'd have to have a blackberry contract to be able to use it to send and receive email of course, rather than continuing any old vodafone contract - using a blackberry for calls only is like buying a laptop to play solitaire

You mean you can't use a blackberry with say gmail or surf the web or play multimedia on it without having a specialised Blackberry contract? OK maybe I'll steer clear of it.
As I said, it's free on an 18mth contract anyway so only worth winning if you want it for 12months I'd guess.

I made the mistake of 'upgrading' to one of these from my N95 8GB last week.

Its gone back to Vodafone. Its a nice looking bit of kit no doubt but its massive and heavy. It takes a bit of getting used to and no matter what I tried I couldnt get the Bluetooth to work on it. It doesnt have wi-fi either which is a massive mistake on a PDA type device. On the upside it comes with a very nice leather pouch that I thought was a great touch.

Overall I just didnt think it was worth it. Its not an upgrade on my N95 8GB unless you can count a qwerty keyboard, an eighth of the storage capacity of the aforementioned N95 and email as an upgrade which I certainly dont.

Vodafone are also pushing people into 24 month contracts with this handset as well.

Just my opinion on the actual phone itself. If you win it then you get it for nothing and of course its always better when its free. :-D

thanks!!!!

I love this phone and you dont need a blackberry contract. You just add existing email accounts and all your data is covered by the unlimited data package that comes with the £35 (24 month) or £40 (18 month) contract, which makes up for the lack of WiFI. The only dissapointment at the moment is the lack of applications for it,but i hear its application store should start rolling out in January.. Saying that there are a few good apps already available, like MS, ICQ, Yahoo messengers, Facebook., Flickr, Google maps and a few others. The browser is ok but you can install Opera Mini which is much faster.

Yeah I like this phone as well, but I think not adding WIFI was a very big mistake
