Online postage

Well, I noticed after visiting the Royal Mail website that you are now able to print off postage - I'm not so sure that I'd want to try to do it straight onto envelopes as I would probably mess it up (I've got a HP Deskjet 3920), but the other options would be onto a label, or A4 paper (that I'd obviously then need to cut out and pritt-stick on or something).

It is probably something that would be easier for me though, since my health prevents me from getting out much (so I wouldn't be able to get to the post office, plus it's recently been relocated etc. anyway), as I am able to get my dad to stick stuff in the post the next day on his way to work.

The questions I have is:
1. Has anybody here used it, and if yes - what do you think? - if no, why not?
2. What size of label would be required to fit both the address and online postage on and where would be the cheapest place (with as many as possible) to buy them from?
3. Where is the cheapest place to buy envelopes (various kinds - such as the bubble ones etc.)?

Thank you for any information that people are able to provide

Erm - you can do it for free - you just have to be able to cut around the zigzaggy edges. :giggle:

1 - Yes, I have used it. IMO its only useful for sending letters 1st class or 2nd. If you wanted something sending recorded, you'd have to go to PO. With regards to parcels, its also handy as all you have to do is hand over the parcel as you would have already paid for postage, unless again, you are sending recorded.

2 - I think there are 4 sizes to choose from. The biggest I think is A4.
It gives you the option when choosing what size you would like on the site before actually paying for anything! As for cheapest places, eBay maybe or your local carboot!

3 - I would probably go with eBay, or you may have some luck on www.freecycle.org.

I got mine from ebay. Cost me about £12 in total. Bargain to me!

Having a look now, bout £10 will get you some that go upto 5KG. Just do a search for digital scales.
