    Orange Contract

So I want to upgrade my phone but I get this:

'' By upgrading your phone you'll be agreeing to renew your contract with us on your current plan:

    dolphin - Dolphin 25

As your current contract doesn't end until 28 Sep 2009 we will add the remaining days to the length of your new contract, making your new contract end date 28 Mar 2011.

To upgrade your phone now please click 'choose a phone'.
    ''

This seems quite extreme to me, so my question is this:

If I decide to upgrade my phone and then say in december decide I don't want to carry on with my current contract, will Orange bill me right up until 28 Mar 2011? In my reckoning that will be around £500.

What are my rights to cancel?

yeah if you go ahead your agreeing to another contract, a renewal of that contract and thus are legally bound to it and all terms contained within

Jeez, they really know how to stuff people over, I got conned into another years contract because of Best Plan. Only another month to pay if I cancel now. Want to stay with Orange but my mate is with Orange and he's always getting a new phone and I don't.

    Check this out folks

Even if you threaten to leave they are offering £10 discount on monthly fees and even extra 200mins to some people.

by upgrading you are agreeing to a new minimum term contract, but you get a shiny new phone

key phrase is minimum term - you cant just walk away without paying up

    its not rocket science really..................

Thats not what I'm worried about, if I take this new phone, I won't be able to get a new one till 2011.

I might just cancel this contract next month, and then get a new contract with a new phone.

The phone I want isn't available through Orange upgrades, the best phone they have that route is the N97 and I'd have to pay half towards the phone.

Whereas if I went with Phones4U I would be getting the phone I want, which costs £485 for FREE and still be paying the same as what I am now for this contract.

I would stay on this contract if I didn't have to pay for a new phone and the actual phone I wanted was available to upgrade to. I've been with Orange now for 2 years next month and I just feel like I've been ripped off well and truly - not service wise but phone wise.

Why don't you just phone and speak to someone rather than go through the web-site, which can't see if it can "do anything for you". The website is good for a comparison so that you know all your options, but when goign for an upgrade phone them every time...

Yeah I think this is going to be my best bet.

Last time I phoned I was told the N95 was a good option, which it was at the time, but had to pay for the phone. Won't be falling for the same trick again - not when I know I can get the phone for free
