Original Recording or Cover version ??

Having just endured Ronan Keating attempt the Goo Goo Doll's classic song "Iris" i tried to think of any cover version which was better than the original.

Marc Cohn - Cher - Walking In Memphis
    Any others ?

    Loved the Nirvana version :whistling:

ohhhhhhhh Iris The Goo Goo Dolls. I love/hate that song, reminds me of someone I wish id forget!(:-(:-(:cry::cry:

Hurt - Nine Inch Nails/ Johnny Cash

    One - U2/Johnny Cash

In fact all of Johnny Cash's american recordings albums are full of covers that are better than the originals

Jimi Hendrix' takes on Johnny B. Goode and Like A Rolling Stone were hilariously awesome. You've got to check them out. Seriously.

James Dean Bradfield and Tom Jones' I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone was much better than the original Elvis song. About a squillion times louder and more rocking. Awesomeness.

Buffalo Tom's version of Going Underground, from the Fire & Skill Jam Tribute Album was better than the original, too. Check it out on Youtube

Yeah that is a great version - a much more relaxed version that makes you appreciate the lyrics a bit more

Though I do like the louder/original version

and the U2 version is even better.

Father and Son - Ronan Keating and Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens (but only just :))

best cover of all: Sid Vicious - My Way !

Glen Campbell is currently doing a Johnny Cash, no not going for a cockney rhyming pee but doing cover versions of relatively modern sing songs.

His version of Green Day's 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)' is surprisingly pleasant to the ear.

    Agree with the first one.

Gomez have done lots of things better. Inc. 'Getting Better'

You must be the only person on the friggin planet that thinks that U2's version even registers on the richter scale.
    The Hendrix version is immense.

Looks like it. I think we should have him shot.

Knockin on heaven's door and Live & let die - both covered by Guns n Roses.

Not the Boyzone version! The Ronan Keating/Yusuf Islam(aka Cat Stevens) duet is surprisingly good, probably because most of it is sung by Cat Stevens.

Never heard the Johnny Cash version. Must look for it.
