Original Xbox flashing green light

I couple of months ago I bought a used Xbox crystal from Ebay. It's been working fine until last night as now it keeps ejecting discs and has a flashing green light. Does anyone know what can cause this and how to fix? Thanks!

Does it just eject the disc if you push it back in? Or does it try and read them then eject?

As soon as I turn the unti on the tray ejects and when I push it back in it just ejects again. I thought at first it was a faulty disc but does the same with all discs so to answer your question, no, its doesn't appear to read the disc.

The green button flashes when the eject button is pressed.

Probably a problem with the little control board behind the power/eject switches, maybe the eject switch on the board is stuck down. Taking it apart isn't that hard, if you wanted to check.

I used to have a load of those little control boards spare from Xbox consoles I chopped up and sold, but I can't remember where they are now. What DVD drive does it have?

Keep whispering sweet nothings and see how far you can get.

LOL thanks!

Pull out the DVD and HD caddies, which will need unscrewing. You then have to undo another 4 screws to remove the controller ports (and unplug them from the motherboard). You should then be able to pull off the front panel, which from memory can be quite tough and might need a screw driver down one side to prize it off. Don't be too rough or you'll crack your case. Once it's off you'll see a little circuit board with a bundle of yellow wires. There's two buttons on this, check they're both working, ie they still press in and then pop back out.

I had the DVD and HD out there and just blew dust out and around the motherboard. Put it back together and same thing. What I do notice though is after putting the game in 3 times, it stays in but green light keep flashing and of course it doesn't load.

That won't have made any difference. I suspect the component giving you trouble in this case is the control panel on the front of the console. It looks like this:

You'll probably need a new one, I have some somewhere.. I'll have a look later.

If not, then it's probably the DVD drive, but I doubt it.

Have you tried with another disc

Yeah Ive tried several discs. Got the controller ports unplugged from the MB can't get the crystal casing off tho.

It's very tight, but with some persuasion it will come off.

I've used a LOT of persuasion but this thing doesn't wanna come off, looks like I need to take out the MB first which I don't really wanna do. All I can say is the eject button clicks ok so it feels like it's working ok. Googling this problem I seen something about a bad EEPROM image and/or a bad bios?

UPDATE - I just got a game to work tried to change discs now I can't get any game to work! Something faulty with the boot up
perhaps?

I managed to resolve this and just thought I'd post what the problem was in case anyone else ever has it. To cut a long story short I figured it was the disc tray, as when it was in if Iwedged it up a little the disc began spinning and the game loaded. I think what happened was too much manually pushing the tray in, rather than using the button, knocked it off slightly.

My old Xbox 1 used to do exactly the same, disc tray took 3 attempts to close every time

It wasn't closing which was the problem, problem was it kept opening again! As I said, it just needed a little lift and that solved it.

To give your Xbox a boost ever tried soft modding it and adding ]XBMC?
I have one and the wife and kids love it - great for playing films and slideshows with music etc. Strangely we don;t play games on it but it can turned into a very cheap and powerful media centre.

Original Poster

Hmm a little lift only worked for a short while. Its back to constantly ejecting again and no amount of fiddling with the disc tray will fix it

Same happening with my modded xbox. But it has been sat there donkey years now. Time to buy a media player.
