    Overclocking a pc

    Banned
Hi, im interested in overclocking the cpu i have the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200. Just have a few questions.

How hard is it to do? Is it worth doing?

Is there any good websites out there showing you or even any programs for it?

    Any advice would be great.

before overclocking it might be better to have a good cooling fan other than the standard one that came with the processor. also there are many software that will do it for you automatically without any risk...

its easy to do, but you need to keep an eye on your temperatures,

you wont actualy gain that much in my experience

    look here for info

Cheers guys, I have already upgraded my cpu fan and its pretty good now. Will i not notice any difference or just a little?

Have to agree with Ropster, I used to do this but once you sit down and work it out in most cases you're not gaining anything worth talking about. In the old days when you could overclock a p2 from 300 to 450 (who remembers those ?), yes. But today, not really worth the risk of blowing your cpu.

You can still over-clock many current CPUs by large amounts especially Intel I believe.
My E6300 2.8 happily runs at 3.5 at stock voltage which is a 25% boost and means it roughly matches a CPU costing over 3 times as much. If I increased the voltage I’d expect to hit 4+ GHz.

The Core i5-750 and i7-920 are rated at 2.67 but many people are running these at around 4GHz which is a 50% clock speed increase. As well as increasing CPU speed the system buss and RAM speeds are also increasing so the systems are scaling pretty well generally.
