Own Art - Loan Scheme to make art affordable

Banned 16
Found 4th Feb 2010
The Own Art scheme is designed to make it easy and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary works of art and craft including paintings, photography, sculpture, glassware and furniture.

You can borrow up to £2,000, or as little as £100, and pay back the loan in 10 monthly instalments - interest free. The scheme is available through a network of over 250 participating venues across the country.

Arts Council England aims to put the arts at the heart of national life. One of the ways we do this is to encourage people to live with art they love. We also want to help artists live by their creative output and support galleries who sell high quality contemporary art.

Definitely not your run of the mill HUKD post. You'd probably get more attention/heat if you put a picture of a semi-nude portrait on the header.

Only 'semi'?:p

So where is the deal :?

Of course in a recession we love to waste money on such 'essentials' as Contemporary works of art and craft including paintings, photography, sculpture, glassware and furniture. :w00t:

Can sometimes be seen as an investment.

Early works of Tracey Emin can change hands for tens of thousands...

Art is a good investment and not everyone is suffering at the moment.

Some will see mortgage repayments fall and have extra income - this is a tax-free way to secure a nice investment possibly, or just make your living room look better.

cold from me, you're encouraging people to borrow money for a possible increase in value that may never happen, why don't you put up mortgage offers from bankssame thing, buy something that may or may not increase in value

This is a tax-free loan for those looking to buy art. It's not forcing anyone to do anything.

It's for those who can be responsible.

Vote cold if that ain't you:thumbsup:

It is a good scheme to be honest, got offered it when I enquired about the cost of the Thomas Kinkade Snow white picture. For people who have the money to spare and appreciate nice things its a decent deal.

For those that live in hovels and are skint, I can see the limited appeal though.

I think that if your looking for some art to go on that empty wall this is a great scheme,i've heard that in the past people have bought original banksy and hirst work using this scheme and its much better then buying some expensive churned out prints that are mass produced soulless unoriginal pap.
Sorry but you could live in a hovel and have some undiscovered artists work on your wall.
Hot for me if your looking to buy some art.

That's really the purpose of it. It's nicer to have something original rather than that mass-produced Ikea stuff.

You were expecting cheap baked beans:-D

Absolutely I laugh when i go into ikea and see people buying the same prints,or you visit someones house and you recognize the same flower prints they sell in morrisons, lol, consumer arts been neutralized, trust your own tastes and explore your own imaginations dont conform to this off the shelf art.
If you are thinking about buying some original work of art buy it because you love it and if its worth abit of money 5 years later thats a bonus.
