    Painting bathroom tiles

In our downstairs loo we have got some old fashioned tiles that look very dreary although they are very light in colour. Somebody told me you could get tile paint that would cheer up the walls a bit - all the walls are tiled floor to roof. However they did say the finish isnt that great - but as the rooms not particularly well light thats not a showstopper. They also told me that once the tile paint is on you can put normal matt or vinyl paint on top? Then again a chap at work told me to gloss them straight off...

Anybody had any experiences good or bad with covering tiles? As its wall to floor on all three walls I dont want to have to take them off.

dont use gloss or normal paint, look poor and with the water in the bathroom will get worse.
B+Q for tile paint worth the extra few quid..!

Yes you can paint tiles but first give them a nice clean to get rid of any grease or oils and then use a tile primer applied using a small gloss roller that will give you a nice flat base to then paint witrh a bathroom specific paint:thumbsup:

i painted mines and they came out great, they were blue and i painted them white, the paint is glossy and shiny just like a white tile would be. I wouldnt recommend using normal paint, i used international tile paint, it was recommended to me in B&Q. It contains teflon and is water resistant.I have heard that u can buy other brands of til paint and thy wont work aswell, but from my experience international is definelty a good one.

I would agree with you international paint by far is the best for this application:thumbsup:

Thanks people! Will give it a go (eventually)!

it costs roughly about £10-£12 for a small tin btw but its well worth it

make sure you use the primer-i did the kitchen ones without it-and as soon as i used the kettle the steam made it blister !

Its ok to paint over the grout as well I guess?

yes it will be fine to pain over the grouting. just to say i didnt use primer and dont have any blistering of paint, i have done my bathroom and kitchen. Maybe it depends on the condition of the tiles or maybe the brand of paint you use. Carol x

when we painted our tiles, we did as suggested before make sure they were really clean and dry, but we also scraped out the grout and use a primer ( inetrnational ) and then put on tile paint ( again international) and then when dry we re-grouted . They look great and have worn well as have been done for a couple of years now. I would recommend especially if tiles are still firmly in place.

I am for painting my tiles in the bathroom can you tell me the best brand of tile paint

Use gravy, it's far cheaper and you can wash it off when you're bored with it (_;)

Need the gravy for the mince stew

Try stick and go tiles instead of painting over them
