Panorama - Addicted to games?

Anybody watch this?

Just watching it on the i-player as I missed it last night. Got to laugh at the one-sidedness of it so far.

Somebody was 'addicted' to COD4 and it resulted in him getting thrown out of uni and left with thousands of pounds worth of debts - All because of gaming.....

Opinions?

I watched it until they started going on about World of Warcraft then I got bored and played CoD

I watched it. A lady left her own child die to starvation playing games excessively that even involved rescuing a virtual child! oO

I was made to watch it. Y? I'm not addicted!
Just gota make enough money to buy Ronaldo on my master league online PES 2011.
Then i will reduce my playing time. (_;)

watched it-totally one sided argument-the people who get that badly addicted are mentally unstable in the first place-its got nothing to do with the games-they are susceptible to addiction-if it wasnt games,it would be gambling or something else-a load of BS imho

Its a joke. You could say this about any hobby. Gaming just has a bad reputation. Most don't realise what a huge industry it is.

Seriously though, it's one of those things that you can't comprehend unless you're addicted yourself, like smoking, alcohol.... admittedly this is a lot sadder and will result in teenage boys never geting laid ever.

Come to think of it I think some of them only coming off their games to post occasionally on here X)

I don't doubt that it can be addictive, but seems a shame that (so far - only watched half or so) the BBC seem to have presented it like it's the norm. Similar to saying that everyone who has a drink is a raving alcoholic spending all day and night drinking.

I agree on the fact that it could be applied to anything.

I do agree with some facts like playing for long periods of time and not going out makes you miss out on a lot of things, but then again that isnt hard to figure out.

that said, looking at those Koreans getting mentally ill over this is something i actually thought about. i mean, gaming there is a national sport, and there are even programmes to get people off games. wtf? it isnt that hard to find something else to do is there? they have a **** beach nearby - go check the girls, id say :P

Also, wheres the good side to gaming? imo its far better for the brain than most other idle activities

lmao, the guy who dropped out of uni saying "anyone in my position my advice is to go out and get smashed"

Nest week on Panorama - Alcohol ruined my education.........

Little ironic a TV show going on about gaming addiction when the person watching is also sat on their **** in front of a screen, at least the gamer is participating.

People get addicted to work. I know folk that will go to work early and stay late, are constantly working. Will go in on weekends, break social occasions to work. Then complain they don't even like it. That's more of a problem than people getting addicted to something that is rally rally fun.

I thought it was a relatively fair programme. It certainly didn't paint gaming as negatively as I had anticipated. I distinctly remember a similar programme broadcast in the 90's that was incredibly scathing. On that occasion they even featured a device that would turn your Snes/Megadrive off after a set length of time.

It is definitely more socially acceptable to play games these days, my mother once threatened to throw my Snes out of the window as I played it for a couple of hours a night.

Admittedly I still occasionally play a game for twelve hours but then I tend to play nothing for the rest of the week.
