Parcel advice please - which service will get me a signature on delivery?

Found 13th Feb 2011
I've almost sold something on Gumtree and they are asking me to post it - I'm happy to so long as I get proof of delivery - but I can't work out the Royal Mail webby.

My parcel is 1450g. It measures 30x23x14cm. I want the cheapest option. Can someone tell me please?

Also, I don't have a printer, so it needs to be a service I can get at the PO. Cheers.

Hi, can I just ask how did they pay you? Was it via PayPal?

(Just checking you aren't being scammed!)

r3tract - they haven't paid yet... just asking for a price delivered - I was going to go with bank transfer... would you advise otherwise? I do have a paypal account, but I've only ever used it as a buyer, not as a seller.

plumberman01 and moob - That's the calculator I used, but it only does letters, large letters and packets, and apparently packets are maximum ARGH. I am soooooooo stupid. Max 610mm, not 61mm. I misread and caused all this confusion. Sorry everyone, it's obvious now what to use! I misread 610mm as 61mm - which is far too small - when infact it's perfect. Thanks guys.

BT would be best, if they ask to pay via PayPal, check that the money is in your account (by logging onto your PayPal account - don't click on a link in an email to get there, type it into a browser yourself!), if the money doesn't appear to be in your PayPal account but you have received an email telling you it is or is on hold. It is a scam. Cease all communications with the scammer if it is.

Gumtree is rife with people trying to scam you.

Noted, thanks.

I would go for a courier , its fully trackable and Recorded Royal Mail is not, half the time they dont bother getting a signature

I used myhermes via parcel2go (was cheaper than directly with myhermes) and it cost £5.99 for a parcel heavier than yours, service was excellent and you could track it properly rather than RM recorded.
You do need to print off the slip but you could do that at your local library for about 5p.

Thanks for that, but at my library it's 20p and it means a trip into town, parking, dragging the kids about etc. Just not going to happen!! Might ask Santa for a printer though...

Have a look on eBay for local collection, there will be some bargain printers there and some might come with ink too.
