park xmas vouchers 2009 - are they reliable????

They are from what i gather a good company, but in this current climate it might be wise to miss it as i was thinking of it but was worried if they go bust and i put loads of money into the vouchers. So decided to buy some vouchers everyweek myself instead.

I agree with amcol - they seem good but I just couldn't trust any company which takes the payment and gives the product at a later date, just in case the worst happens!

My thoughts exactly. Hold off as this is the kind of business likely to go under in 2009, me thinks.

IIRC they're backed by trustees which should work towards guaranteeing your savings, something that Farepak didn't do before they went bust.

I would give it a miss, if you are worried enough to submit a thread asking I think really that says it all.

thankyou everyone for your comments, youve all really helped........ think i'll give it a miss then

i think you can expect some of the stores you can use the vouchers on to fold before next xmas so dont buy vouchers at all-imo

Put it in the bank or post office. If you get a post office investment account you can put in weekly but need a warrant to take out9mine you do) which stops you dibbing in-you just ask for a warrant in november and get the readies instead of naff vouchers!

morning suze guess where i am?

i have used them for the past 3 years and they have always been reliable but i am not using them this year due to the credit crunch i am not putting money into a company that may go bust best option is put the money away.

thats exactly what i was thinking! woolworths now shut, adams are closing down, how many more are gonna follow suit this year? thanks.:)

Be very wary especially of the high street gift vouchers....

How many of those shops will still be here next christmas?

yeh if you need no temptation ask at the post office-its a good way to save it:thumbsup:
you can even add two people and both put the same in each week. Makes you more motivated!!

would just put money away in bank every week, companys not 100% reliable these days. you can spend the money in any shop you like then too, instead of being tied to the ones on the vouchers

i have just opened an isa and im going to set up a standing order to pay into it every month when i get paid so it will just feel like paying another bill but i will also benefit from the interest as well (tax free) also my money is covered in the event the bank went bust, hth

I agree with everyone else, vouchers are a risky business at the moment with so many companies going bust. I would not buy any, and any you receive should be spent quickly.

Also agree with everyone else, vouchers are a definate no at the moment, and given that a lot of people will also think this the companies that rely on selling vouchers will more likely than ever fold - a catch 22 situation, definately one to avoid!

i have a seprate xmas bank account and pay into there i also have a visa card to it then if i see any HOTDEALS!! through the year i can just order saves a fortune in the long run and you can take cash anywehre unlike vouchers!!

post office account and put in each month what you were going to spend on vouchers much safer

As I think most of the above have said what I would have said, lots of the retailers that took the voucher's have gone and how many more are likely to vanish in 2009

Much better option would be to send me the money you want to save each week and I will invest it wisely. "Now where did I put the racing post" :whistling:

Glad someone else has something good to say about them - cos I signed up in November

Park Hampers have a very good reputation.

Honestly, there's 15 in our "club" It's been running for as long as i remember, but i only joined in 10 years ago. We have never had a problem, and too be honest too many people apply for high street vouchers through Park, so i trust them 100%

I think the danger is this isn't a normal year, the high-street in general is in real trouble. Many people similarly trusted Farepak (?) and they collapsed when times were a lot more comfortable. By all accounts they will probably pull through and there are more guarantees than with Farepak, but look at whats happened to people with Zavvi vouchers to see the potential problem...

I agree, that's why like the OP has done, is look into the situation before making a decision. I have made my decision and happy with it.

Good For what it is the high-street voucher is probably a much safer and better bet than vouchers limited to one-company (except maybe Tesco!), and literally any sort of investment is a gamble at the moment!

well dare i say yes i have used them myself and was a customer to family hampers which went bust the other xmas and it was park that took them over.

Just spotted the TV ad for Park...they are still showing Woolworths on their list of vouchers:whistling:
