Parking fine via parking eye

Found 8th Jun 2012
Two weeks ago my wife was out shopping. This morning she received a letter for a £60 fine increasing to £90 after four days. Further amounts will be applied after a length of time. She was on a car park monitored via a parking eye. On the letter two photographs are attached one entering and one leaving the car park. The letter states she was entitled to up to four hours free parking. In fact she was actually on the car park for 4h 17m. A lot of forums are on the net saying ignore the letter and the many more that will follow. I also believe this was mentioned on watchdog some time ago?
Fact is fact that she was parked exceeding the four hours but never noticed a sign.
What is your opinion?
1. Pay up and forget about it
2. Just ignore it

ignore it
If it's a private company not a PCN I'd ignore it, they will try to bully and threat but in the end they will go away.
Did she leave the carpark after an hour, return two hours later for another 1hr 17 mins?

No idea how these things work so maybe not best to claim that happened if they can prove otherwise!
The stress of dealing with these company's is just not worth it, revisit the site and check for any sign as it is your responsibility to check before you park, if there are no signs then you could appeal, good luck

peppipoo forums is your best bet.

Was it a sort of retail car park? happened to my friend, he said he was working onsite in a shop and got away with it.

She was in Stoke-on-Trent at Festival retail park.
Parking eye IS a private company, they can only ever do you for breach of contract and they have to prove how much they've lost by her parking in that spot. I used to get a load from work from the Car Parking Partnership, which I just ignored, they get bored becuase they've never taken anyone to court.

They're tactics are based on scaremongering, you'll find helpfull info here: forums.moneysavingexpert.com/for…163
You should pay it as a dutiful citizen.
Ignore it.. as most people are saying. They'll probably threaten with bailiffs etc but just scare tactics.

I think PCN is Penalty Charge Notice. These are issued by the council. If it is a PCN then I think the general consensus is pay up before the fine increases.
Yes i got one on a sunday in a car park that used to be free on sundays & had been for years, it was £50 at the time then increasing if i didn't pay it ....... complete bunch of tossers!!

Divorce your wife. She has spent four hours and 17 minutes out shopping and you have photographic evidence to support this.

During this time she has neglected the housework, cooking you tea and no doubt had the audacity to decline her wifely bedroom duties due to her having had a 'long day'.

I suspect she also wasted money on clothing, make up and trinkets, money that could have bought your beer, sky sports etc.

In some countries she would be up for a good stoning.
I got one at Monks Cross York, I found the email address of the shopping centre and emailed them explaining that I was unaware of this limititation on time to park, my Aunt has a lung disease and finds it hard to walk around, (she hasn't got a disabled badge and manages). They replied although a little curt and said they would waive it for me but in future I had to go to their customer service desk and explain that I may be longer than the 4 hours.

I did this last week and they recorded my name and number, I parked for 5 hours and have not received a letter.

I hope you get it sorted out because I remember how it made me feel when I got mine.
Ignore it.

i also got one from monks cross, my husband spoke to the info desk there and they said just ignore it and told us to google the firm but they never told us to that really !! never heard another peep
btw i live 5 mins from monks cross shopping park so theres no way id even need to park there for 6 hours anyway
Do the photos show who is driving? If not its up to the company to prove that. You are not required by law to disclose this information. Who do they then send the ticket to? The registed keeper may not be the legal owner. If you appeal then they will know who has committed the offence then come after you.
Ignore it and visit pepipoo.

agree to pay of they can prove you agreed to it! 12 minutes in
100% ignore - Private companies have no authority to issue fines! this is not a PCN, or at least the PCN they want you to read about.

Private company PCN - Parking charge Notification
Police, council, traffics etc - PCN - Penalty charge notification

One should be paid, one should be ignored, I'll let you decide which is which

As mentioned, lots to read on MSE and pepipo forums about this
Similar thread on this forum with lots of advice.
