Parking Help

Does anyone here know who I need to contact to report cars that consistently park on the pavement - blocking the ways for prams and not allowing them to cross the road without dismounting the kerb?

Thanks

Where is the location?

contact your local council and the local police - ask for the local beat officer or pcso to be made aware

the council

run a key down em

You will need to contact the Highways Department of your local council.

However, from experience they come and look at the problem a day or so after which is by then too late. Good luck!

ha ha, make sure they are not allowed to park on the kerb first!!

I believe parking is a council issue unless they are breaking the law ie parking on double yellows, drop curb, obstruction etc, then it is a police issue

this will help you preventing the people that *park* on the kerb

If you call your local council's switchboard they should be able to put you through to the correct department which is likely to be 'Planning and Transportation'!

If you've got a problem, and no-one else can solve it, then you require....

Is there a CCTV camera pointing at the location for evidence?

Take some photos if really bad - I know it a bit like grassing, but its yours and your childrens safety at stake. We had same problem at start and end of school - a few choice photos, phone call to the council and a few visits from a warden and everyone parked a bit more sensibly. It also helped getting the school involved who put in the newsletter registrations of those who aprked on corners, across driveways and generally endangered everyone.

Local Council's are most likely to deal with any of those contraventions if the Local Council is responsible for enforcing on street regulations. Red Route's will be the only responsibility for the Police/Traffic Warden's!

If it is a Local Council that enforces parking controls and your lucky enough to find a Parking Attendant, get them to take a note of the vehicle as they can issue it with a Penalty Charge Notice and possibly get it removed. You can also get them to note in their logbook that the vehicle is persistently parking at the same location and they will start patrolling that location on a more regular basis.

The other possible option if you do call the parking team, they may be able to send a truck to remove the vehicle if it is deemed to be causing a serious obstruction! That could do the trick!

Brilliant - thanks!

A police officer can issue tickets but they can be arsed over things like this and lets face it when did you see a bobby walking down your street last ? - its actually an offence to park on a pavement, My father was blind and had to run the gauntlet of parked cars everywhere he went and sometimes got injured in the process by these said cars

We all done it and most people are thinking about leaving room so other motorists can pass (in my road people park on both sides of the road with 2 wheels on path 2 on road as no car could fit through if we all parked on the road, we had the fire engine round last week at 7.30 sounding its sieren as people hadnt left enough room between car to allow it to pass (no fire just out testing access) so you cant win either way.

Solution is - park on your drive or park somewhere else

But as you say, sometimes there is no other option. I used to live in Chatham and everybody parked on the kerb. The roads just weren't wide enough to do it any other way. What a lot of people don't take into account is that when they were building houses in the 1800's they didn't take cars into account so built pretty lean roads

everyone on our road has a drive and the majority can fit at least 2 cars on them.....but do they use them? No!
the worst offender is the guy who lives opposite us, he has 1 car but a drive big enough to fit 3 cars on.......guess where he parks?

By the way, it wouldn't surprise me.

It is an offence to park on the pavement although there's a can of worms involved there. I think you'll find that in the majority of instances, the Police have no jurisdiction with regards to issuing a ticket (Penalty Charge Notice) as it will be down to you Council if they have responsibility for parking controls. It then has to be established if the area where is a vehicle is parked is on private or public property and if access to the public is restricted. I won't go on as I'd be here all day but sometimes its cut and dry but not always!
