Got myself a HTC Desire to replace my san francisco, but it seems to have quite limited space for installing apps. I have found a rom to get round the issue but it requires me to partition my sd card.
I downloaded gparted live cd and burned it to disc, but it wont boot and ive no discs left and im at a loss what to do.

You can download rom manager which can partition drives.
Can you also partition in recovery?
I ran Ubuntu from a memory stick and used gparted in that. You need a minimum of 2GB.

rom manager seems limited in sizes it can manage. i was hoping to set aside 1gb for apps to install onto and leave the rest. Rom manager appears to me to go to 512mb max.
i have one card reader so installing ubuntu onto a card still would leave me unable to partition another card

Why do you want 1GB ext partition?

Unless you're going to run data2ext, you will run out of internal memory before you fill up 512mb.

What ROM are you using? I'm using LeeDroid

You can also partition from recovery. Not sure if that gives more control than rom manager.

Install the Apps2SD version of Leedroid.
Create a 512mb EXT partition you dont need more than that.

follow the installation guides and you will be fine, everything can be done from the recovery menu on the phone.

Currently im on the official 2.2, i want to try the starburst rom on modaco, i think it has data2sd. i already have only 74mb space left on the phone.
