PASSPORT CHECKING AT THE POST OFFICE

Does anybody know when u use the check and send service for sending passports off to the passport office that if anything is wrong and you have to fill in another form will they charge you another £8.00 when you get it checked again, and also realised after filling in a few lines that you have to use ballpoint pen and i had used gel pen so i went over what i did with ballpoint, i have a feeling they will tell me to redo even though if looks nice and clear, any advice wud be appreciated

Think you have to use black ballpoint pen. I dont see why, if you have paid for the check and send service, if anything is wrong, you should have to pay again. You're paying for it to be checked properly.

i need it pretty quickly so im posting for my husband tomorrow and he is in work all day tomorrow so he cant get to a post office to get a new form,so im hoping all will be well with what we have done,i really cant c a prob but who knows with the passport service.

In my opinion, Due to the over writing, you will have to do it all over again.

You will need to do another one, at some point the form is computer read and therefore over writing causes problems. I would do it now before it's returned for u to do again!! Save time and money

If I remember right, they check it before they take any monies from you, so if there is a mistake you don't get charged

As said above you wont get charged if there is a problem but even check and send is no guarentee of acceptance at passport office.

cant you get to a post office?

seems bizarre tha you need it quickly yet are prepared to run the risk of it getting returned with a penalty fee to pay which will add a few weeks to the application

lesson learnt is read the instructions first

    hang on a mo

the whole idea of CHECK AND SEND is you dont send your passport off!

you take it to a PO and pay £8.17 and they check it for you so fill out a new form when you get to the PO.

check and send is pointless, I paid for someone to check it, then it got returned by the office and I ended up paying a massive fee to get a next day service.

Don't think I got my money back from them checking it either!!

I deliver them. Don't bother u don't receive it any quicker and it isn't that hard to fill out anyway.

Did check and send with mine recently and well worth the money, the whole point is you dont end up sending an incomplete or incorrect form. Seeing as yr going post office anyway get them to do check and send and they will tell you if you need to fill it in again, it wont take long. Said 2 weeks and got mine back in 8 days.

for some it is, not everyone is the same

You only have to answer about 4/5 questions, there are not many places you can go wrong. It's not too bad if you're only sending off for 1 but £8 per person certainly adds up for a service that isn't really needed and provides no guarentee.

If it gives piece of mind then fair enough but it's not something I would use. I did think about it for speed but when someone who works for the passport office told me that they weren't processed any quicker I decided it's not worth it.

and also realised after filling in a few lines that you have to use ballpoint pen and i had used gel pen

on the basis of this ^^^^ I'd get it checked

I sent off a renewal last week got it back today quick turnaround within eight days. WOW

I know this, did a passport application on friday, right its £8.17 for check and send even if you do not want the checking you have to pay it for the fast track service regardless. If there is a mistake you can't correct there you still have to pay the £8.17 and you will receive a receipt, this is the bone of contention I had though...............you cannot then take that receipt and finish the job off at another post office you HAVE to return to the same post office unless you want to pay for the check and send again at another post office.................

I'm the same, got mine today, bit suprised as I got a renewal and a first passport within 9 days. I expected the renewal to come first.

I had my sons passport form checked and because he had touched the top line with an L,
we had to do it again. When we filled in the new form I went to another post office to get it
checked, I had to pay the charge to get it checked again although I gave them the receipt
from the first POST OFFICE, WHY??

Because you paid them to check it initially, which they did. You made a mistake which they spotted and had to write it out again. Hence it needs checking again because the post office likes taking your money.

I'd have said to the first post office, as I'm paying you to check this can you just confirm that the rest of the form is filled in correctly. Once they said yes, I'd have copied it exactly (minus the small error) and then posted it normally. Doesn't help you now of course.

Why not go back to the first post office? I'm sure they won't charge you again.

I was told to show the receipt and I wouldn't have to pay again. What is the difference from one post
office to another, I had paid £8.75 to the post office, wasn't told I had to go back to the same post office
if I had gone back to the first one I wouldn't have been charged.

I don't care tbh. Either you do or you don't.

My advice for those thinking about check and post: if you have several renewals just have one checked, and fill all the same entries, anything they pickup on the application handed in can be amended on the rest. Renewals are very simple to complete, so have a go yourself. mistakes are made when people have not read the instructions properly.

It's harder to get out or get other people out of this country than it is getting in.
