Hi

Does any one know how to set a password onto a wireless router to stop unwanted people acessing my internet connection?

I have a PC and my bro has a laptop. We have a modem from Virgin Media and my bro has a wireless router attached to it. Our internet is soooooooo slow at the moment & my uncle thinks someone may be using my internet connection.

I can't seem to find what i'm looking for on the net, so thought i would see if anyone else knows how to do this?

You need to log in to the router. It should be in tbe manual but for netgear routers it is
routerlogin.com OR 192.168.1.

Default username/password: virgin and password

Then just go to wireless security settings and choose wpa2

Are you sure it is 192.168.1?

I thought it was 192.168.1.1

Depends on the router you have. My Netgear is 192.168.0.1

OP, if you provide the model of your router, I can provide exact instructions on securing your wireless network with a password

There is help on the Virgin site here (if virgin supplied the router)

Ok, im not very techinical but i shall try and find out later, & will probably have to let you know tomorrow, as i can't get on my net at home as its sooooo slow. Thanks for your help.

if you goto a DOS Prompt and type IPCONFIG it will give you the address of your GateWay this is the IP Address of the router.
ig

On mine i have MAC filtering so only MAC addresses i know are allowed on mine, again if you do IPCONFIG /all you will see the Physical Address this is your MAC address.

Add these into the Allow table for each machine

my bad m8.. you are right theres a 1 on the end

Try the sticker on the bottom of the router, for example mine says:

54mbps wireless ADSL modem router DG834GSP v3

and in this case DG834GSP v3 is the model (it's actually DG834G v3, I assume the extra SP is because it's a custom branded one from my ISP)
