Hi
After getting a new netbook I am now trying to completely sort out how i use it as i will be taking it away from home regularly. Only ever used PC at home before.
One of the problems i have had for ages with my PC is that i constantly forget my passwords. As passwords were new to me a few years ago i also perhaps did not come up with difficult passwords so i want to completely change them all so that i know feel happier particularly with on line banking, paypal etc.
I know there is some software that you put all your passwords into and it stores them and then you just have one major password to unlock that. I have read of one called KEEPASS but wondered if someone could recommend any others they use.
Also are these sites safe. It just seems slightly unsafe to me to put all your passwords in one place.?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Finally if I was out in a cafe for instance would it be safe then to use this password. I am doing my best to update my securrity knowledge but it is very worrying in case i do something wrong.

Roboform was recommended to me and it's great

Oh but its a software you put on your own computer, not a website - am not sure I would do that myself.

With Roboform you can store your address and card details if you want so you can click one button and it will fill in forms for you

I have heard of that before but presumed it was to keep your address etc and just helped you fill forms out with your details. i did not appreciate it stored passwords. thanks.:)

I have a passworded word document with all my passwords, if you've ever tried to hack a word document password you'll know how hard it is, but sure if you've got a keylogger, screen grabber installed you're screwed.

****, I knew I had been compromised

Why dont you keep the password the same but change the prefix so say have hsbcgoofeysgirl, playgoofeysgirl, hmvgoofeysgirl, hukdgoofeysgirl etc etc. Best not use them now though.

You only have to remeber one password but every site is a different one.

Thats not a bad idea...i may be able to play around with one of my good password like that.
Perhaps just keep my bank ones different or something.

I really wouldn't, then if they get one password then have them all … I really wouldn't, then if they get one password then have them all anyway. Just use one password for them all, but prefix it with a diff number or whatever.

Yes i think you are right..even if it is safe i wouldnt be happy storing all my passwords in one place. I will do what you and greg_68 suggested, have a strong password and then use some sort of prefix for each. That way i have good strong passwords but only have to remember one and the prefixes...cheers great idea.
