Patching a Garage Roof Leak

Posted 6th Dec 2019
Hi,

I've noticed a tiny leak coming through the roof of the garage today. Given it's been pouring down all day, I don't think it's too serious.

If I'm 'patching' the garage roof with the felt material which is on there at the moment, what kind of nails/pinning do you use?
Thanks.

I've re-felted a shed room before, I'm presuming this is the same and I would use clout nails?

Would I just paint a thick coat of that on the roof where I suspect the water is coming through from?

I would've thought so. Just make sure the roof isn't asbestos

It it is a newish garage it won't be. If it looks like corrugated concrete it probably is. If it is felted already I think it is more likely to be wooden

Yes that’s all you do ,you can even apply it when it’s raining

There is plenty of bitumen paints and silicon’s in Screwfix if you have a look and see what suits

Give it a good rub with sandpaper whilst inhaling deeply, your know if it's asbestos in about 10 to 40 years

No. Never use clout nails on a flat roof! You'll just make the problem worse.
Can I use this across the overlaps of the felt on the roof to stop any water getting through?
