patio slabs - cheapest?? Any ideas

    Hi,

I am finally relenting to she who knows best and going to arrange a patio. However, I am struggling to find any suitable suupliers for self build - I havve tried the B&Q website - but their mmark up is disgusting - so i am looking for a little bit of help/advice on the best ways to give my darling wife the addition to our garden she wants, but without breaking the bank!!!!!

If anyone can offer any suggestions, i would be very grateful,

    Thanks in advance

PS - just for info purposes, the area I am looking for can be either 5m x 2m, or 5m x 3m

Wickes are reasonable for slabs.

Look for one near you, and if your very lucky, someone might be giving them away!
Probably wont be brand new, but they're free! HTH

    try your local builders merchant

if you have a No Frills near you they do slabs really cheap and the stuff to lay them is far cheaper than B&Q failing that check out yor local builders merchant

I mixed and matched mine from two different suppliers to get the pattern that I wanted. Trouble was, one was metric size, the other imperial, result; big gaps, mucho nagging from OH, etc. Be warned!

for your post - do you nkow if No Frills have a website - or is it due to their no frills, that they do not??

    Thanks

Make sure you leave at least an inch in between slabs for mortar otherwise the mortar will eventually crack. Alternatively, do not mortar at all but get ready for continual weeding

and seal the slabs with Thompson patio sealant to prevent fungal build-up as the moss loves porous slabs.

    Where do you live??

NatD, I live in south Wales - within easy reach of Bridgend, Neath, port Talbot, Swansea, Llanelli, Carmarthen

if you know of anywhere close by to get these slabs, I would be very grateful if you could let me know,

    Many thanks in advance

Apologies - there is somewhere local called Offerton Sand & Gravel who we found were about 30% of the price of B&Q / Homebase!!!
