This isn't new, but is hopefully relevant as children go back to school. If your child has instrument lessons at a state school, you can buy their musical instrument without paying VAT. The link to Prozone is just an example with a simple description of the process; your child's school and your music shop need to co-operate in supplying the instrument.
This is obviously very worthwhile for students needing better instruments for higher grades - decent instruments can be over £1,000!
