Paying car tax monthly by direct debit
Found 4th Sep 2016
I set up a monthly direct debit for road tax for my car last year. My direct debit was going out of my bank around the 1st of every month. My current road tax expired on 1st September this year. Are the direct debits automatically set up again by the DVLA when the current payments expire (unless you tell them that you are no longer the owner)? I have checked my bank account and no new monthly payment went out for the 1st September, however, on the DVLA website (where you can check the tax status of your vehicle), it says that no tax is due until 1st September next year, 2017. I just assumed that the tax would just automatically start up again, if not, that means that I am now 3 days in to not having any tax on my car (not driving it at the moment, as is having repairs done to it at my garage), will I get a fine over this? Thank you.
