yeah it will do if you done it over weekend

If the transaction was carried out anytime after the Friday evening then it will have post date of Monday on your bank account and may not show up until then.

If you paid via PayPal gift then I'd say the seller was squeezing an extra few quid out of you as there are no fees at all associated with a Gift payment via PayPal.

Mine took upto 4 days to "clear"

I believe that statement to be incorrect. If your paypal account is empty and the payment is backed up by a credit card you still faces charges.

If there is money in your account or your account is backed up by a bank account then there are no charges.

I thought that the OP was the one who was paying not the seller. The OP stated "Paypal was demanding a £2.99 free from the seller". If it was a credit card charge the OP would be the one that got charged. There is no charge for the recipient of a PayPal gift payment.

I agree, but common sense tells you that you're not going to want to be charged to receive the payment as thats the whole point of paying via paypal gift option.

the one sending the money has to choose who pays the fees

The OP obviously didnt want to pay the fees and tried to pass them on to the seller

Obviously the seller requested payment via Gift option so that they didnt have to get charged.

if you are going to pay fees you may as well of paid the £82 plus there fees you would have a come back with paypal, you are having an item sent recordered delivery which will cover you for £36, and no come back whatsoever should it not turn up
