No if its gone though that's it i suspect ? also i would never pay somebody with the paypal gift let them pay the fees.

Sorry, i dont thin kyou can retract witha paypal gift!

Only if you say your account has bee hijacked.
Paypal gift is for people you trust.

No you can't as it was a gift payment.

you cant retract a gift but if you paid via credit card you can claim it back!

And the scammers.

None of what so ever. For all Paypal is concerned it was a gift to that person.

Have you tried calling the person?

If all fails click the report button (http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif) in the relevant threat and inform the MODs, so they can make sure that the person doesn't do it again on here.

Thats only because stupid people trust them and use PP Gift to pay them.
The clue is in the name really, paypal gift. You don't get gift's back, because people don't generally give out gifts to people they don't know/trust.

I posted this for advice - not abuse.

I am new to buying and selling on here - it seemed perfectly normal to pay by Paypal gift, thats what everyone seems to do

Op you bought this amp yes ? and the seller has no feedback and has been a member for 1 month did you not get any details from him.

That's the one as i said before new member no feedback i hope the op got numbers etc etc but going by this thread no.

You would have no protection which ever way you paid,The only safe way is cash face to face or if someone has enough feedback then you have an idea that you can trust them, If you have more feedback than someone then it expected they will post first, Otherwise it is simply a gamble on whether you receive the goods or not,

you need to report to the mods nothing else you can do as you have no details and they obviously are not going to come back

Yes that is the purchase

I didnt pay the full amount, we agreed to pay half upfront and half once it arrives.

I have a mobile and home phone number from him and his address and full name etc..

At the end of the day it might turn out to be genuine, apparently the courier delivered the item back to him last week rather than to me so another pick up/delivery had to be arranged for Monday.

Maybe i am stupid for trusting someone with no feedback etc... but i didnt realised paying by paypal gift would be any different than paying by any other means.

If he has used Parcel2Go then don't worry yet as i bet he used the 24-72hour service. Give him a ring as there is probably a reasonable explanation.

Thank you

Even now i was planning on waiting to give him the benefit of the doubt etc... i just wanted to ask the question, not only for this occasion but for in the future as when i sell anything it always tells me to be aware that the buyer can still retract payment.

You've done the right thing by getting all his details. Even if you paid normal paypal you still wouldn't be covered if the money had been withdrawn/spent as only eBay offers proper protection.

He hasn't logged on since the 1st November so could have PC/internet problem or busy.

What i don't understand is you have his home number and mobile number what you posting on here for GIVE THEM A RING

You have the contact details, give them a call, nothing accusatory, just that you want to check whether the item has been reposted and if its by courier then to obtain a tracking number or so.

I wouldnt use Paypal gift again, I would use standard paypal taking payment from a credit card to prevent fraud from that way instead.

Well like i said before...i am interested in the answer anyway regardless of the sale.

Reason being - when i sell anything it comes up with a warning telling me that the buyer can still retract the payment so ive always wondered what is meant by that.

Don't let that fool you as being safe though.........as a lot of credit card companies won't do anything for under £100 and others won't make a claim as Paypal has upheld it's end of the bargain and that's who the CC pay the money too.

Thankfully there are still some CC companies which are good but many are becoming wise to Paypal claims and excluding them now.

Paypal gift does NOT cover you for anything, even if you pay by standard Paypal(where fees are incurred) you can only claim for an item not received,it's only Ebay sales where you can claim for an item not as described as well.

So when paying anyone on the FS forum you have to weigh up the situation, like how long they have been a member and how much feedback they have or if they have Ebay feedback too.

At the end of the day, buying from a stranger on a forum is still a risk i'm afraid.

Hope you get it sorted:thumbsup:
