PayPal/eBay not giving seller's address out

Hi, I bought a PS3 about 2 months ago . It developed the yellow light of death ("ylod") only on light useage! I opened a dispute with my bank. I have done everything I need to e.g. write and explanation of how it was defective, the paypal invoice , the ebay invoice etc. The only thing i need to do is return the item. The seller does not want to give me his/her addrsss and eBay and PayPal won't give me her address for security reasons! So now what am I meant to do with a broken ps3?

Was it a business seller or private? If private then Caveat Emptor applies and you have no recourse.

This is what I would do otherwise I think you will have to just put it down to bad luck and take the hit I'm afraid as it's a private sale.

You can get his address off of ebay.
Doesn't work off iPad but will off of a PC.
Goto, advanced (near search bar), then " find contact information" ( left hand side), then put in the user name of the seller and the item number, it will then send you and the seller each other's contact information via email. That is if they have put the correct information in!

if you get the sellers address would everything be sorted?
did the seller say the had a returns policy? it's normally under the postage bit...
I normally give around two weeks (returns) on electrical items.
I don't no if PayPal would give you a refund after two months

I tried that already only gives me his/her city and mobile number. the mobile number is disconnected. It keeps on going to voicemail. I have sent messages to seller's that she has bought items off and i am waiting for their reply.

in that case, you say the person is still selling on ebay, report the seller to ebay as they have to register full detail to allow them to sell, which includes there full address and contact telephone number!

+1, this technique works! Also will give you their contact number Oh wait, okay I've just seen the above, I would report that!

However if it is a private seller (which it is because businesses have to have their address displayed), then you are NOT entitled to a refund. You purchase a secondhand item and the only responsibility from the seller is to ensure that the item was described accurately, which they must have done. Because it developed a fault, its not their fault. The onus is on you to have to deal with the issue, sadly.

Also if you were to obtain their address and return the item, they have no responsibility to refund you, nor will eBay/PayPal assist you.

If the seller can send you the original receipt you may be covered by Sony warranty. Apart from that you have no chance of a refund/replacement. Getting the address or phone number is of no use as the seller does not have to refund you

Yes but if I get the address then I can return the item and barclays will proceed with the dispute and then they can try to chargeback the seller and I will get a refund

When you bought the item.

Did it mention anywhere it comes with a warrenty?

I'm ASSUMING its second hand and there was NO mention of warrenty, If this was the case, I'm sorry to say there is not much that can be done.

If HE STATED. A warrenty was it 12 months or 30 days? If 12 months. You should be covered and entitled to a refund or replacement.

All the best

Seller wont accept the return. If you were the seller would you give the refund? I know I wouldn't. This is risk you take when buying second hand goods. Blame Sony. The mark 1's of each console always seem to be glitchy

So you're asking for help to defraud this person? It is not their fault or responsibility!

If you go ahead either a, which is mostly likely, the buyer will lose the funds because Barclays issue a charge back or b, the seller still has the postage receipt in which case PayPal should cover them and they will keep the funds, then PayPal would be at a loss - surprisingly!

Please can I have your eBay ID so I can block you?
Edited by: "joshp" 21st Jun 2014

No companies will give you personal Iinformation due to data protection act!

The console was working for 2 months which means he did not provide a faulty product. Unless he states returns for longer than 2 months there is nothing you can do unfortunately. You knowingly bought a used product from a private seller , knowingly new the risks and it was working so I don't see why he should accept any returns, and his not certainly obliged to accept it.

Another example of a shocking buyer, I can imagine her wandering round a car boot sale months later when something she bought became defective. This isn't a company, it's a private sale, I assume a second hand console so sold as seen. It obviously was ok or you would have tried a return as soon as you took receipt of the console.

Disgraceful behaviour trying to get your bank to do a chargeback.

It is unfortunate for you as a buyer, but I totally agree with the last two posts.

Yep, please let us know your username on ebay so we can all block you.

Thing is, you don't have any right to return for a refund. Private sale = buyer beware

Dispute with your bank? On a private used product? What was the banks response? Dispute should be via ebay (open case). I'm a seller and I hate it when people say it did work then it stopped after a couple of days etc well it was working when you received so what happens then on is down to the buyer. It clearly says on listings Used/New, images of the item working, details of the product and if returns are accepted or not. As a seller your job is to send them what you describe so test it, pack it, send it, track it.
Buying insurance for a used expensive product is a good idea.

Not the sellers fault at all. Its the risk you run buying second hand. I cant stand buyers on ebay who think they can return items for any reason, esp when its clearly not the sellers fault. Try to look at it from the sellers point of view. Have you not thought of contacting Sony????

It's just like buying a second hand car ... no guarantee it won't break down. You bought it ... used it ... and now it doesn't work - after 2 months.

... it's the manufacturer not the supplier you need to speak to.

So it clearly showed a fault from the start, but you ignored it and believed the seller who no longer owned or wanted the console over what you could see in front of you? You have then waited two months, well past the time Paypal/ebay give for refunds, to decide to do something.

You should have opened a case right away through ebay and sent it back (tracked) for a full refund. It doesn't matter if the seller claims it works, you could see it didn't. Overall you have no comeback on private sellers but thanks to ebay rules they force all sellers to give buyers a refund upon return even if their policy states no returns and they give plenty of time for you to open a case.

Now it's too late and I highly doubt you'll get anywhere going through the bank. If you've returned it then you'll have no money and no console if the banks don't refund due to it being a private sale.

I would love to know how long ebay buyers expect their products to last for, for some reason when people buy second hand they think there is a lifetime warranty, sadly not the case, if you purchased a second hand item from a private sale, it is sold as seen in reality, it is the risk you take when buying on ebay sadly.
