Paypal/Ebay - Please help ive been conned!

Ok so i sold a TV on ebay, i stated in the auction for the buyer to pay cash on collection. However the buyer who won paid via paypal. I withdrew the funds to my bank account. As he paid we arranged for him to collect the tv. He collected it and then left me positive feedback on the same day.

Then a few days later i got an email from paypal saying they were holding the funds and a case had been opened. I contacted paypal and was told that they were holding the funds due to an issue with the buyers account. I explained that the payment was for an ebay item and that he had left me feedback and they said all the buyer had to do was call paypal and let them know that he had indeed collected the goods.

I emailed the buyer he told me that he had contacted paypal - Paypal told me he had not made any contact.

I then receive an email today from paypal saying they have reviewed the case and decided to reverse the transaction = He has my tv and his money back!

Because i already withdrew the money to my bank my paypal account is now minus!

What do i do? I have spoken to ebay and they said that paypal should have not done this as they can see that he has left me feedback and therefore has got the tv!

    Im fuming!

Oh lawd, n ever take paypal for collection items, ever. Small claims if you have their address and proof they have the TV.

This is a scam that's been circulating for a while, does he have his home address on the paypal payment thats been sent, if so, either go see him (if you know its the correct address) or go to your local police and let him know that's what your doing.
Also, in ebay, you can ask for contact details (it's a mutual thing so he'll get yours too, see if the paypal and ebay details match up.

Small claims? How do i go about doing that? Can i use the positive feedback on ebay as proof?

Surely the fact that they have left positive feedback proves that they have collected it.
Paypal always favour the buyer, as a seller you stand to lose your money everytime.

So are Ebay going to contact the buyer and Paypal for you to sort things out? They insist on Ebayers using Paypal (who's charges are over the odds) for buying and selling so they should be there to help when there is a problem.

Oh lawd how many people really don't know this.

If you accept paypal you have to be able to prove delivery in most cases to be eligible for seller protection, this is online proof of delivery by a postal/courier service.

Rule one is never, ever take pp for collection, ever as you can't prove delivery just refuse it, hard lesson learnt

Yes hard lesson learnt and im fuming with paypal that all the evidence is there yet they have reversed the payment! And fuming with ebay for letting it happen and just basically saying tough - sort it with paypal.

This does happen regularly, and in hindsight you should have asked for payment on collection, but go ahead with the ebay contact details link, see if they match, phone both ebay and paypal and say it's your intention to go to the police, the buyer's acted as fraud as his intent and it seems both ebay and paypal don't take fraud seriously, say to both of them that you intend to report them to the police too as it's obvious he's collected the item, send on a copy of emails with him arranging times for collections and so on

Ive never sold anything on ebay but

The justification for it is fb is not proof of delivery, it can be left in error, wrong transaction etc, sucks I know.

They will send the debt to debt collectors, down to them how far you chase it and obv if it's left you will loose your pp/ebay acct probably a releif for you.

I have another paypal account which i have linked to my ebay so my ebay is safe.

Yes unathorised transaction - And when i spoke to paypal they said that all he had to do was confirm he had collected the goods and then paypal would know it was genuine and release the funds. He told me he had contacted paypal - Which he hadnt!

It's down to them, don't know how far they will take it tbh, if your pp account in arrears is also linked to your ebay, you'll loose both eventually.

£300 i have skimmed have you rang the buyer up? Just you would of thought he wouldn't of bothered to leave feedback if his plan was to scam just in case he didn't get the money back. Unless yes of course he's used false details?

Oh god - So basically im stuck! I really cant afford to pay the money back to my paypal account. I will have to leave it minus and just hope i dont get contacted for the money.

He did contact me both via ebay messaging and his email address.

Ive just had a look on ebay and it wont show me his address details, he does have 100% feedback. When i phone ebay the only positive thing they did say was that they were going to raise a case against his username.

pretty much yes.......all they will say is you should have read the terms and conditions of being covered by seller protection.you should have his address details in the paypal transaction, but those details will be worthless as hes said someones hijacked his account.

even though you know it was him you cant actually prove it........other than going around his house and looking through his window, but its not neccesarily gonna be there but if it was you may have a case for the police but you would need hard evidence like serial numbers to prove its your tv either way

All that will happen he will get a no payment stike, this means nothing as such for you..

All you can do is contact paypal again and explain you have been scammed and take it from there..

There could be an inocent person whos ebay and paypal was hacked, who rightfully so, should of get a refund, In an ideal world you both would get it back.. but thats not the case.....

Just thinking................................. Is your default bank account for paypal a credit card ?? you may have an element of insurance on that which could help you.. (if a standard bank account, it will not be any help)

In regards to the minus figure, I would expect PAYPAL to just keep trying to DD the funds from the bank account assigned to your paypal account until they get the funds..

    Then.. email you..

best bet.. ring paypal again and try and explain again to another memeber of staff...

    Good Luck

    Have you tried phoning paypal?
