    Payroll queries!! HR/Payroll people needed!

    In the company I work for, as I work on different projects, I have to put in my hours on a monthly basis (projects have different pay codes). Normally, I travel within work hours and anything I do is generally between 7am and 8pm.
    However! This week I've got to get to London (from Birmingham) by 9am, do a full day's work, then attend a team meeting and go for a meal which won't finish until around 9.30pm, then get the train home meaning I won't be "home from work" until around 11.30pm. This is an extra ~5 hours per day which over a few weeks will massively mount up.
    Should I claim for these extra hours? Is it classed as working time? I get paid for travelling if it's within my normal working hours, so is it different?
    Any advice would be great!

    It will be best to contact HR directly who should be able to give you a simple answer.

    Every company operates a different work policy and contract, have a read of your contract if you have it with you, it should state clearly in there.

    when I used to work in hotels if you were away from your normal place of work you claimed,if you were"at home" you coudn't

    I would hope your company has a subsistence policy and/or an expenses policy...so you should be able to claim back anything you pay out for being able to 'live' whilst you're on extended hours. You'll probably find that your contract states that you have 'normal hours' but that you're expected to be flexible. If it doesn't say that, I'd say chance your arm and ask about being paid overtime!

    if unsure of policy then claim for them....the worst they can do is refuse and they will have to give you an explanation

    Yeah claim for the time at the meal, i'm sure everybody claims they are WORKING on their works nights out. :roll:

    Chances are you will get your expenses paid, not the extra hours travel. Although some places allow you to claim the hours you travelled to the job, not home.

    You misunderstood, I normally work any time between 7am and 8pm - not for the whole time.
    I've only just got back home as I got the last train which took an almighty 3 hours so I'll definitely be claiming for a portion of it!! !
    To the last poster - get a life! I was after genuine advice from people that either know about payroll/expenses or HAVE a job so your input isn't required.
