    PC advise wanted, thanks!

Someone is offering me a second hand PC, tower unit only no monitor, the spec is as below:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2.4 GHz 4600+
    3GB DDR2-800 PC-6400
    160GB SATA 7200 rpm
1GB GeForce 220 GT (Can swap out for a 1GB GeForce 8600 GT)
    Standard DVD-RW

He wants £240 for it, I am thinking more of £200. This will be mainly used for HD media streaming to my PS3 and some gaming (WOW, COD and Battlefield BC2)

    My questions:

    (1) What do you guys think of the price?
    (2) Shall I have the GeForce 220 GT or the GeForce 8600 GT?
    (3) Will it run the games I want to play?

    Many thanks in advance!

    £150 quid

    AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2.4 GHz 4600+ = 35
    3GB DDR2-800 PC-6400 = 40-50
    160GB SATA 7200 rpm = 20
    1GB GeForce 220 GT = 60
    Standard DVD-RW = 10
    Case and PSU = 30-50

That's about 220-250 to build the system today new, so I would say a second user system he should be selling for £170 or less. Oh and use the 220GT

If the one sold comes with a genuine OS then add another £60-£70?

Personally at the price to build new thats the route I would take.

Where did you see the processor at that price anyway, looking to upgrade my 3800+ now its a few years old.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2.4 GHz 4600+ - £34
    3GB DDR2-800 PC-6400 - £50
    160GB SATA 7200 rpm - £28
    1GB GeForce 220 GT (Can swap out for a 1GB GeForce 8600 GT) - £45
    Standard DVD-RW - £11

Plus you would need mobo, case, PSU and operating system (linux is good and free) and a little knowledge and time to build.

Without the operating system I would say you are looking at the £250 new, agree with others that it's probably worth £150 to £175.

    Thanks guys, really informative advise!

How about the gaming performance of this set up, should at least run Crysis on Medium, right?

    Benchmark

You may get away with it looking at the benchmarks, however I guess it depends what resolution you are calling medium setings.
