PC Expert help please - PC keeps turning itself on (windows7)

    Banned
Last week I noticed it kept turning itself on from Sleep mode or even after a complete shutdown. Only stays off for 5 seconds.

Disabled WAKE ON LAN in the BIOS

Disabled WAKE ON NIC in the BIOS

Disabled power management options (Windows 7) to Wake on Mouse / USB

Disabled ALLOWED THIS DEVICE TO SWITCH COMPUTER ON within the Realtek network card adaptor settings.

Even reinstalled windows 7 on a seperate drive and booted and shutdown from the new OS bu still the problem persists

Completely run out of options now unless I'm missing something. I suspect it may be the PSU or the Power switch itself but cant really test these,

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

Mine did this , was the psu , ended up going on fire at one point after turning itself on.
Was an expensive Antec Psu too, was lucky we were in the house at the time.

    Has to be the PSU.

Actually disable your network card and see if it still does it.

    try installing xp or vista.
Also check windows device manager for any issues.
Try setting power options to balanced.
I had noise from a coolermaster psu when running certain apps and the problem persisted when i rma'd and fitted a seasonic psu. It stopped being noisy AFTER i installed win7.

Its not an OS problem as it only started doing it a week ago and win7 was running fine for 2 months and I tried a fresh install of win7 this morning. Same problem exists.

    Device manager shows no conflicts

Already disabled WAKE ON LAN / NIC

Guess its a new PSU at my cost as I really cant be doing with returning the whole two month old PC to Ebuyer and being stuck with a laptop for weeks :x

Thanks all and rep added for useful comments.

Check your network card settins in device manager ,

Thanks Tony but already have both unchecked and have also tried disabling the device completely. Just ordered another PSU which should hopefully fix the problem. My own fault for trusting the reliability of Ebuyers value PC :w00t:

Ebuyer's only advice was to return the PC in its entirety along with a newly installed OS so they see the same problem. I'm certainly not going to do that so will take the hit myself for the cost of a new PSU.

Try unplugging the mouse before system shuts down. I had this problem on XP which was the result of slight movement from the mouse causing Windows to wake up again.

Faulty power switch? Maybe a slight shorting or something making it think you've pressed the power button? Not sure how you'd fix that other than new case or motherboard. But it could of course be PSU.

As above go to mouse properties and disable "allow mouse to wake" option,

You could try resetting the Bios. First try the hotkey on startup or option in the Bios (safe settings if it's an option) and if that doesn't work then use the clear CMOS jumper on the board or take the bios battery out for a few minutes.

Actually I have already tried that. Unplugged everything as it was shutting down but still started up again. I also had already turned off the WAKE on Mouse movement in the control panel. I think that option only applies to standby anyway.

I did consider the power switch button but then thought why did it stay on without a problem if the power switch was shorting. Fingers crossed it is the PSU otherwise the new PSU is going back to amazon and the whole PC is going back to Ebuyer. :x

Already tried loading Optimized Defaults in the BIOS.

Did seem a bit random for a psu to decide to turn the pc on. Sounded more like a power switch or something on the motherboard shorting telling the psu to come on.

actually they have been amazing. Told them it had a fault last friday and they arranged a pickup for monday and just got an email say they are sending a replacement PC as my one is confirmed as faulty

Hopefully, it will be a better spec as they sold out of my old one weeks ago :-D

ring them and have a right moan.

Get a refund. There's sure to be a deal on around now as Christmas/New Year deals.

called them up and ended up paying £10 extra. Only difference was

    Old cpu was E5400

    new cpu is an E6300

    old HDD was 750GB

    new HDD is 500GB

and new one has a better case

will never need more than 500GB anyway as my OS is on a drive in this backup PC I am using right now and that is 320GB.

Only thing I wasnt happy about was the 5 day delivery time as they wanted £11.61 extra if I wanted next day delivery. I can wait a week though lol

    NEW PC SPEC

Extra Value Desktop PC, Pentium Dual Core E6300 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDRW - £229.99 delivered

    ebuyer.com/pro…488
Might overclock it too as reviews on ebuyer say it goes to 3.5Ghz (7.0ghz) without any glitches
