PC Hard drive - Transferring from 1 HD to another

The hard drive on my computer is full, its only 80gb.

Obviously I need a new HD. How do I transfer everything from the 80gb 1 to the new 1, incl. the operating system which is already on the 80gb 1?

Any easy way to do this?

This too. Basically any image creation tool should do the job. There are some open source ones that are supposed to be decent too but never used them.

Is it a cable thing? A cable from the old HD to the new 1?
Do I have to have both HD on my system?

Why not keep it simple and buy an external hard drive?.

You can plug it in to your USB port and then move files from the computer to the external hard drive, freeing up space on your 80Gb drive.

You dont say if you have a laptop or dekstop.

On a desktop, adding a new hard drive, and moving or copying everything across, is not that simple (if you have never done it before).

On a laptop it is even more difficult as you only have one "slot" for the hard drive so cant access them both at once.

I would just go for an external hard drive.

Spotted this on eBay - item no. 250621488761

    Any good?

Try HDClone free edition this will do the job as long as you as cloneing drive to a larger one, it worked on my windows 7 ops from an 80 gig to a 500 gig

I have used Paragon Disk Copy with great results , but you could as sugested just add another drive as a slave to your PC and transfer your data to this drive ,freeing up your disk space .This will be easier and you wont need to buy anything more than just the drive .I have slave drives in most of my PC's but there mainly in caddy's . which can be removed and put into another PC to transfer data or locked away for safe keeping .

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but how else would you transfer the data if they both weren't attached at the same time?

Poster has not even said if they have a desktop or laptop yet.

Also, poster does not sound that technical and may have never been inside their computer case.

Do you think they know if it is an IDE or SATA hard drive? (if it is only 80Gb it may be IDE)

Do you think if it is IDE they know how to set master/slave?.

If they manage to do the clone will they know how to make the new hard drive bootable?

It is NOT simple if you dont know your way round the inside of a computer case.

    Bristle Hound,

Is this a desktop or laptop?

How old is the computer (roughly)?

What version of Windows do you run?

Answer these questions and I will try to give you more help.

    EPIC FAIL!

It aint exactly rocket science to work out where it goes lol

My great gran could put a HDD in a PC once I told her the SIMPLE instructions

and the software does all the work for you. No messing around with changing boot drives. Maybe you need to get into the 21st century lol

personally, I would get a SATA drive (for future compatibility when you upgrade)

also get either a SATA controller card or a SATA to IDE bridge adapter
