    PC Help

So i bought the laskys deal - ACER Aspire M3640 Base unit, Quad core 2.4ghz, 3gig ram, 640gb, 512 meg graphics £349.99

Has the - GeForce 8600GS , in it.

As i will be just using it for multimedia purposes and playing my old faourite game, battlefield 2, i was wondering if i could slap another of the same graphics cards and maybe run newer high end game's.

Not really a pc madman, have stuck in a graphics card in my last pc no bother.

What do you guys think, looking to give it a little more oomph without spending alot.

Any games i should check out, that will run on this no bother, would be nice advice to.

Oh and i have a 37inch samsung that i use my current pc on 720p res.

Can i get the games to run out that to?.

i love battlefield 2. play it unpatched great game.

oh and SLI i thought to be a fairly big waste of money, probs better just upgrading the card. go for a 8800gt but will make marginal difference.

    Its the GS i have.

you'll need to watch that any bigger card will actually fit in as most of the more powerful ones are quite physically large these days.
Power supply may also be an issue with better cards and SLI is out of the question in most bought systems as very few come with more than 1 pci-e x16 slot anyway

looking at the spec. that board isn't SLI compatible, so having 2 cards isn't possible.

If you do update to a 8800gt or above you do need at least a 450Watts PSU, so maybe extra expense, as the site doesn't mention the power supply output.

    Hope it helps

Yes, you appear to only have a single PCI-E 16x slot so you couldn't add a second graphics card of the same type.

720p is only 1280x720, which is the sort of resolution you'd find on a 15" widescreen monitor so outputting it should be no problem. Not all games will be happy to run at that resolution but most that support widescreen (virtually all games from the last few years) should work.

9800GT for £81 in the today only section.
(free delivery, if you use the hexus posting method, see HKUD forums for more details..)
You will need a decent PSU, though I imagine given the system was supplied with a quad core and a 8600, hopefully be up top it.
If you are using it as a 'Mediacentre' you might want a ATI 4850 instead, as it will do sound through HDMI, which is handy if you want to just plug it into a tv. Its also a kick A** gaming card.
