it should tell you on the RAM stick itself. If the PC is custom build then open it up and check out one of the RAM sticks thats in it at the moment. Be sure to wear an anti-static band to make sure the RAM isnt damaged.

If its been purchased from a retailer then it should have a model number, look up the model number and check out the motherboard specs to see the type of RAM it handles.

hope this helps. Cheers.

would ddr1 memory work on a ddr2 supported motherboard though?if so i will just order some ddr1 memory

Yep - get the model number of the PC or motherboard, as this is your best option. If you intend to keep the RAM that's currently there, make sure you match the specification speed-wise to maximise compatibility.

FTR if you're talking about an AMD Athlon/Sempron board (Socket A motherboard), you'll most likely be wanting DDR RAM.

Go to Crucial.com and hit scan my system on the PC your looking to check this should tell you what the mobo is capable of supporting

Here is the crucial site, run "scan my system" from there

You dont have to buy the memory from there, you can get it from anywhere.

Just make sure you write down the exact details of the memory you need.

Also it is a SEMPRON cpu not SEPRON

No, each type will only work in it's own slots.

Sempron is AMD's line of budget CPUs and there are ]quite a few of them over at least four different sockets. There's no way to tell without knowing the specific model which type of memory you need, although it will almost certainly be DDR or DDR2.
